Zach is walking by the fountain doing goodness knows what. Well, actually he's just walking with his headphones around his neck, minding his own moderately polite business. Then something pops out of the fountain...there really are few other ways to describe this.

Because, really?

These things, they happen.

"Holy shi---" but he doesn't finish that because Zach, other than being an expert couch potato, is also an expert mumbler, which becomes an expert stutterer in the face of such unexpected events as People Surfacing from Fountains, and so on.

Then the other words catch up to the geek's mind and he walks forward a bit, peering at the soaking stranger.

"You know Claire?" Oh, and, "Who are you?"

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD.

Alex drips for a good twenty seconds, only staring at Zach because he was supposed to be in California, it was supposed to be night, and what the hell, he just made out with the most beautiful person ever and now here was this kid who knew her that wasn't Lyle?

He shakes his hair out again, running a large hand through the formerly gelled mess and then down to rub at his eyes and nose, beneath his glasses.

"Holy shit. Holy shit. What's going on? Who are you, because I'm just Alex."

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD.

"I'm Zach." Pause.

Pause.

"Geeeeez," he turns around in a circle, shaking his head, glances at Just Alex, and then he stops, pointing. "Wait, so..." again he stops. This is obviously going really well. Taking a deep breath, he tries again, less mumbling this time. "So, you know Claire." Yes, that part, they went over, but he has to say it again because it's starting to get ridiculous. It's almost like everyone knows Claire, and that's just a little weird in a place that draws people from everywhere.

Okay. So. Awkward.

"How do you know Claire anyway?" It's becoming more and more evident the more he thinks about it, that this guy is probably from a future point in time. That much, Zach has figured out. Or, at least, if he is from 'Zach's time', Claire never mentioned him, which seems altogether unlikely.

OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD.

"I'm...Alex. Alex Woolsly." Pause.

Drip.

Alex makes a small offended face when Zach points at him because dude, don't point, it's rude. He straightens up when Zach mentions Claire, though, because it's the only familiar thing to him in this place, and he's determined to cling to it. So he clears his throat and starts walking out of the fountain, sloshing slowly until he can climb out of the edge of it, shivering.

Awkward.

"Can I trust you? I'm flippin' serious, can I trust you?"
