Yeah, sounds about right. Lovecraft's resurgence above Poe in the latter decades of this century is, in many ways, weird - and I can very much see where she's coming from.
Lovecraft would probably count as Poe's biggest fan, evar! It took him many years to move out of the shadow of the great man, though he managed it eventually.
It is exceedingly common for academics and literary types to feel superior to Lovecraft fans, which is pretty funny, given how HPL afficionados tend to feel superior to readers of mainstream horror, who in turn feel superior to Twilight fans. The pyramid of 'being special' ... ;o)
