If you were a rather stern mother with an exceptionally unruly child (in your opinion at least) and it was your child's first day of school, what guidelines would you lay down? Like 'always do what the teacher says', that's pretty obvious. 'Be polite' is another. What more ( Read more... )

My dad always told us 'you can pick your friends and you can pick your nose, but don't pick your friend's nose or you'll get in trouble and kids'll think you're weird.' heehee that and 'if you think you're going to get in trouble doing something, don't do it'.

HMMM... I'd maybe go with 'eat up your break-snack' 'don't get your new clothes dirty' and 'try to make friends with the nice and proper kids' hmmm?

There's always the classic 'Treat others the way you would like to be treated.' Or, 'Be kind to your enemies, it messes with their heads.'

I did have a stern step-father, but I wasn't an unruly child. *g* However, being the uber-stern step-father, he expected the worst, of course. He'd say things like, "you'd better have homework", "drafts are always done in pencil, never pen!", "I'd better not hear you backtalking to your teacher, you hear me?", and "I'd better not catch you lying".
Stuff like that.
Some stern parents think the worst of their kids, so aren't very surprises if/when that worst happens.
I'm intrigued, now. *g*
