It's not really a subject you can allow yourself to play lightly with, not only because of its severity but because I knew chances were more than a few of those reading would have personal and painful experience with it and so it was essential to treat it with respect. And I had wonderful help as well which made a huge difference.
One of my best friends suffers from bulimia, and has nearly died twice. Her heart is weak. She'll live with it for the rest of her life. Happy to say she's eating now and at a healthy weight which she's maintained for over a year, but the demon's still there.
So this particular characterization of the illness? You nailed it.
Thank you so much for sharing that with me. It is horrible what this disorder can do to people. And yes, "the demon is still there" is such a true description, I think, from what I have read and heard from other people's experience. Dormant but not gone. Never gone. And that is a very scary thing.
