So...

Did you know the song "Last Time" on Anthony Stewart Head's album "Music for Elevators" was written by Joss Whedon and perhaps meant to be a song for Spike in the OMWF musical?

If, like me, you were clueless about this, the lyrics can be found here and if you don't have the song I have it uploaded hereI want James to sing it with his Spike ( Read more... )

Maybe it was. I was just cruising for James Marsters lyrics and came upon this:

“Last Time” is a “guest” contribution, with words and music by BUFFY creator Joss Whedon. The number sounds as though it might have been written for the BUFFY musical, not for the character of Head’s resolute librarian Giles, but rather for Marsters’ lovelorn vampire Spike (as noted, Marsters appears elsewhere on the album). The BUFFY connection is further strengthened here by the presence of Benson on backup vocals, along with Machado. Head emotes affectingly as the anguished narrator, contemplating an affair he can’t bear to leave, no matter how badly the woman treats him.

Here for the full review

It does talk about being treated badly by the woman:

I guess I'm just a pastime
Something to keep her occupied

and

And we both know she'll come back on the fly
And I'll pretend she's justified
And she'll pretend I've got my pride

But I don't understand why every time
I get ripped all up inside

Doesn't really sound like Giles and Olivia.

I know!!

I don't mind at all. Post, link, I'm good.

Oh yes, CDS. I was wondering how it works. I'd rather keep my fic all here so could I just post links to them? I've only ever posted here and on the Yahoo group Forging Ghost (long time ago) so I'm kinda ignorant about all the boards and forums out there. Scary stuff stepping out of LJ-land. Meep!

Well ASH does have a lovely voice. I reaky like "Rest in Peace", so as long as he does that one as well. Just give JM more songs to sing.

Oh he does. I had heard a couple of songs of that album and didn't like them because they sounded so techno which just doesn't seem like ASH at all. But this one isn't like that. Possibly I might have to check the others out.

I actually like JM's newer songs better than the old ones, mostly because his lyrics skills have somewhat improved. I hope he does a new album. Next spring maybe? Lets hope.

Meh. I'm glad he didn't. I had more than enough mopey!Spike, thanks.

ASH has a gorgeous voice, though, doesn't he? Mmm.

Ah but he does mope so well. *pets him*

Although I think they should have had him sing something with real rock in it in OMWF. Rest in Peace lacked some "oomph". Anya's bunny song had more rock in it than that.

ASH has a lovely voice. I'm always hoping for him to start singing on Little Britain. Not that the British Prime Minister generally sing much, at least I can't remember Blair humming "Bush is my Boss" out loud. But you never know.

Oh yes, she does some talking in the back ground (since she can't sing. She asked Joss to please not let her sing on OMWF and so she only got two lines there). And both James and Amber Benson provide back vocals to some songs.

Aaww, they're all like a big family. *pets them*
