Turns out my sweet old cat had had an acute kidney failure. Whether caused by the infection or the infection caused by her kidneys failing, they couldn't quite say. But her levels, which are supposed to be below 200, were over 1000. And with her age, and the infection and everything, it was really no use. Her tail had even started to go cold from
