Wet and cold and sad are not conducive to feeling one's best. Couch and good tv and nice comfort food are definitely in order.
I'm glad the service was nice. We scattered my FiL's ashes at a mountain overlook about an hour's drive from where we lived then. He liked it there, and MiL picked the spot. And years later, we scattered my son's ashes there, too--mountain goat, he loved climbing there, so it seemed a good place. We did divide his ashes, though, and have scattered some at a favorite spot on the Atlantic coast, some near our present home on the Pacific coast. Right after his death I bought antique silver match safes and snuff boxes shaped like a dragon, a nautilus shell, and other figural shapes, and enclosed some of his ashes in each one, for each of us. Macabre, maybe, but it's been a comfort for us.
Aside from the trip home it sounds like it went pretty well. I am glad you got to give him a good send off. I am also glad you are home safe and warm now.
I'd already read about your hellish journey home on Facebook, but it's good to know the funeral went as well as can be expected. I think it's so lovely that you sang yourselves. ♥
Good to hear that your trip was as well it could be at the time.
Vädret har verkligen varit regnigt här, så inte från sin bästa sida. Lite snö hade varit trevligt men is och halka är man glad att slippa. Sänder lite fler kramar och jag tycker gott ni kan mysa - ta det lungt.
That sounds like a really lovely service and I am so glad your family was able to be together. Everything about this experience has sounded really difficult, so every bright moment you've described must have been a relief. I am sorry that the trip home was so hard, though.
I am really late reading this, so I hope in the last two weeks you have had time to recover.
