Meanwhile, with a sensible proportional representation system, Ireland managed to land itself a hung parliament for a brief time, which was resolved shortly before Bertie Ahern resigned as Taoiseach, thus dodging responsibility for the whole sordid mess.

Irish politics are unique in that the divide is not exactly left vs. right, though, so we're sort of ... different.
