Tired
He was so tired. It felt like he’d been this way forever. Every breath seemed to last an age, or longer. When he tried to open his eyes, the act alone lasted a century. He tried to look around, to see where he was. That was a couple of decades, at least. The fond smile that formed when he saw Tom asleep in a nearby chair took a year to form. It lasted forever, though, because he knew he was out of danger. Tom wouldn’t have let himself fall asleep if he wasn’t. Still smiling, William Mowett returned to slumber.
