I must share while I'm thinking about this. (Hopefully will get to my "highlights reel" soon.)

I thought sam been given a very good way to say what's an illusion and what's not. I don't see why sam needs a confirmation from third party to know that Dean sitting at his table is real Dean.

You mean inflicting pain on his sliced up hand? Last time we saw him use that trick, it seemed to me pretty clear that the cut was healing. Unless Sam takes up self-harm as a way to determine what's real and what's not, once that wound is healed, he's going to need something else. (And I really don't want to see Sam go the self-harm route, for a number of reasons.)

Regardless, though, I can understand why people would see the the scene being played that way.

I've seen that theory a couple places. I've rewatched the scene a few times and took it as Sam going from bitchface #1 at Dean for sitting down, to bitchface #2 at Dean for planning to stay and eat. :)

There's a tweet out to the Ben's, so hopefully we'll get an answer.

That's sort of how I read it the first (few) times through as well. But now, focusing on Sam's dynamic in the scene, the bitchfaces last way too long. There's one point where Sam starts giving no reaction at all. It goes from bitchface to suspicion. Then the waiter comes up, takes Dean's order, and it's not until Dean reacts with "What did he just say to me?" that Sam goes from suspicion to bitchface #3 and actually engages Dean.

Maybe that's in the script, maybe it's the way Jared decided to play the scene. But Sam does not actually engage Dean until there's 3rd party acknowledgement that Dean is there.

The beauty of it is the ambiguity of it. Maybe Sam was just being pissy that Dean found him and decided to stick around and have coffee. But otoh, maybe there's a reason that he decided to go blank and non-responsive, and going from blank to pissy only after someone else had spoken to Dean first. (Because if Dean were a hallucination, Sam would look off his rocker talking to someone who wasn't there.)

Yeah. I can see it that way, too.

I saw the post on that subject, and it makes a lot of sense to me! I'm not sure whether or not we'll get any elaboration on what happened with Sam during the missing week and a half, but this seems like a good indication that he *is* still wrestling with Hallucifer.

The Final Statement... ext_5329534 March 19 2020, 02:38:48 UTC
I Love The Final Statement, Cause It Describes The Way I Feel About Supernatural, PERFECTLY!!!!!! Oh And Obviously The Word "Flail" Is Used Affectionately (Not Aggressively). And The Word "Affectionately" Is NOT Used In Place Of The Word "Intimately." It Is Used Instead Of Saying "Riddled With A Cosmos Of Examples Described As Positive Associations." I'm A VERY Proud Nerdy/Geeky 20-Year-Old Emo Non-Binary Person, And My Name Is Samuel Cannon/Jonathan Smith/Jonathan Dove

Legal Name/Birth Name/Stage(Pen) Name
