Okay, seriously?

This romance novel cover recently came to my attention. The gent looks uncannily familiar, yes? It must be Jason Eckles.

"It Happened One Bite." Seriously?

But that's not what's making me laugh the most or roll my eyes the hardest. No, that would be the "product description," the summary of the book ( Read more... )

books, bwah!, jensen ackles, bzuh?

What's making me roll *my* eyes is all the 5-star reviews!

"It Happened One Bite" would be a decent title if the book happened to be satire.

*sighs*

So, curiosity got the better of me, and I read the prologue on the Amazon preview. I was mildly intrigued. Then I started reading the first chapter . . . and couldn't go any further than the first sentence or two.

It's like the romance genre makes me break out in hives or something.

When one of the reviewers compared it to Twilight (supposedly, it's TL set in the 1800s), that pretty much settled things.

"It Happened One Bite" would be a decent title if the book happened to be satire.

Or George Hamilton Dracula movie.

Wasn't that the title of the old '80's movie where a female vampire had to drink the blood of a male virgin to restore her youth? It was horrible. I remember getting mad because what's so terrible about a guy being a virgin?

It was one of Jim Carey's first roles - she-vamp was a model, I think it was her only movie (no surprise).

Wow, that's pretty blatant. ;) Then again, if you want the best looking man in the universe to grace the cover of your book, you go to the source. Hee!

I did a little bit of digging and found the cover artist's website. I'm not really surprised she used Jensen as a model/inspiration/basis for one of her covers.

She's got good taste, that's for sure. ;-)

Oy! and again Oy! with a helping of Vey!

I refuse to walk down the romance section - never mind vampires, the covers are littered with demons (a succubus who wants his soul back!) angels, vampires, werewolves, weretigers, weredragons, werepanthers, wereeagles werepartridge-in-a-pear-tree, genii (some with light brown hair) old gods, Faeries, timetravellers, ghosts and aliens. . .

Seriously, people?

I know. Just . . . oy.

I think it's the "plug and play" formula that irks me the most.

Or maybe not. There's a lot about the genre that irks me since I've outgrown it.

Oh, there's plenty about it that's still irking - I can't avoid it because there are some women at work who still "adore" it.
