That is so cute!!! I tried to crochet years ago, but alas, it is not for me. My stitches kept getting tighter and tighter and well, let's just say I realized that crocheting wasn't for me. Oh, and what a pretty cat!
My stitches usually aren't tight enough, meaning I don't usually match the gauge the patterns specify. Thus far, I've stuck to projects where gauge isn't a huge deal. But if I ever start crocheting clothing, that's going to be a problem.
The calico is Bunqui, and she's 14 years old. She is still spunky and spry, and when the vet comments on how old Bunqui is, I just kind of look at the vet like she's nuts. *g* We got her as a little kitten, and she's definitely my "familiar."
Hee! No, getting her into the bag was quite a chore. But she does love paper bags and, for some reason, plastic bags. And of course I have to keep her away from my yarn. Or crochet very stealthily.
I found the patter on the Lion Brand Yarn website. The only stitches you need to know are the chain stitch, the double crochet stitch, and the decrease double crochet stitch (which is detailed in the pattern direction).
The site has several patterns for this type of bag, and I know they have at least one knitting pattern for something similar. I used a cone of, I believe, Lily SugarNCream cotton yarn in peppercorn ombre for this bag.
It looks like a long project, but it actually goes very quickly if you're comfortable with the double crochet stitch (which is actually, I think, my favorite stitch).

(Careful, or she might get used to this new luxury. You'll never get her out again.)
