The orgasmic vampire bite so often found in Buffyverse fanfiction--if you don't know what I'm referring to, Buffy and Spike are only too happy (in the hands of certain writers) to, ahem, illustrate (in NC-17 fashion, should there be any doubt):

Buffy and Spike illustrate the orgasmic vampire bite... )

Conversely, I got in trouble with lots of readers with an AU story I wrote in which Buffy meets Spike and her "vamp tinglies" weren't triggered. Vamp tinglies may exist in canon, as way back in the first episode Giles tells Buffy to hone this skill, but it's not one she ever really demonstrates. Nor did Kendra. Nor Faith. Or either of the Slayers Spike killed, as far as we know. The mysterious Angel even spends the night in her room without triggering her "Slaydar". So, while it's possible, but it's not exactly canon for Buffy. She has really good instincts though! Usually ( ... )

Plus it made fun of cheesy vampire myths. (Too bad it preceded Twilight's sparkling vampires. That would've been fun to pick apart in Buffy.)

> I have read stories where Spike bites Buffy's breasts, and I don't mean a shallow cut but full fang insertion.
That's a rewrite of a "True Blood" scene between Bill and Sookie! And rather Freudian with the symbology...

Oh yes, it's basically the old "cure against female hysteria" by vampire.
And Angel's bite looks rather vicious. Out of curiosity, does it leave a scar?
No, it's never seen or mentioned again.

Aha! I've only seen about one and a half season of True Blood, and I must have missed that scene, I can't say I mind, because the very idea makes me shudder!

Really tho, I'd tend to say it's a pretty obvious thing. It's not like breasts are short in blood vessels. And mouths and breasts happen quite often in sex where a female type body is involved.
The one that makes me cringe is more delicate bits.

Vampires are modern monsters that symbolize the dangers of sex and sexual desire. They literally are the embodiement of eros and thanatos (love and death) but they are also super ancient monsters. Literally, every ancient mythology has its vampire-kind of type and it's always somehow connected to sex (There are even vampires who drink bodily fluids like sperm, just sayin')
Whedon, of course, does a bit of mix without really considering mythology, but it's pretty strong the connection between sex and vampires. Buffy's first love (and the man who took her virginity) is a vampire and coincidentially he's also one of her major treats while growing up. I've always saw, for example, that scene when Dru bites William as William losing his virginity. Which can be painful, but at the end he makes such a pleased expression.

I was aware of the original vampire lore as a metaphor for sex, but that was necessary for stories that oftencould only allude to such things and never make it plain. In Joss' world, vampires do enjoy sex, so there's no need for the layering of vampire bite as a sexual penetration metaphor. It's...redundant. In NC-17 fanfiction, it's doubly so. It just seems too easy, that's all.

(One could easily imagine him bringing that up as an idea instead of the handcuffs. Would've been far more natural, if kinkier. So I think it's intentional, the contrast with Angel's dreams.)

It's another of Joss's selective metaphors. Sometimes it's painful, sometimes not. Whatever the plot needs. Like how magic is sometimes that way whenever Joss wants it to be a metaphor for sex. Sometimes it's sexy, sometimes it's hard, sometimes it's painful, sometimes it's easy.
Personally, it doesn't work for me in stories because when it was done on the show, it was always done with violence, coercion or deceit and always painful even if it later ebbed to pleasure. I don't really think it's suggested Riley got off on it, either. I've always kinda wondered why it was so popular, tbh, though I guess it usually goes hand-in-hand with that claiming nonsense. To me, it's on the same level as something like auto-erotic asphyxiation. It's not that getting bitten is pleasing, per se, it's that sort of high you get from that.

It's true that claims usually start with an orgasmic bite. I suppose after that, you're hooked for life! :P
And if you bring up auto-erotic asphyxiation...well, not that I know anything about it or anything, ;) but aren't there people who rely on it to get off, as in, it is orgasmic for them?

which means it can feel good, and the parallel to prostitution is pretty clear.
Yeah, but they also paralleled magic with crack. I think it can feel good. Not the biting aspect of it, but the rapid blood loss, the endorphin release from the trauma. It probably induces a kind of high. That's why I likened it to possibly being like asphyxiophilia since the effect would be the same--low blood to the brain. I think the brothel is a different thing altogether since none of them are drained, really. In the sense of things like G-Day, I think that's probably it. It's the only explanation that actually works. I mean, vamps are sending out brainwaves and at the end of the day some being has teeth in your neck. There's no explanation why it would feel good other than that, IMO.
Probably it's just overthinking things. The biting scene is one of the most cringeworthy things in the show for me. Just lame. RIght up there with blood tears.

> I've just never been able to get too hung up on whether or not something makes sense or is logical. If it works for me while I'm reading it, it's all good. If it doesn't, then it doesn't matter if it's canon or not.
Well said!
I do recall enjoying a super hot, particularly coagulating scene in "Loves Lost". I usually shy away from stories containing AR/R, but I'm glad I braved that one. I think "Love Awakened" is my favorite of the series, though.
I think I may need to rewatch some of the episodes I've forgotten, because I can't reliably tell what's in canon and what's strictly fanon anymore either...

I keep saying I'm going to do a rewatch, but it hasn't happened yet... I really should. It might get the juices flowing again and wake up the muse.
