Summary: Anubis listens to Abel and Christa talking about various things.
A/N: From Anubis' point of view again. Stand-alone fic. At the moment, anyway.
Abel and Christa. What would happen to one without the other? I prayed that they would never have to find out - they had always occupied a special place in my heart. They were called simple or feeble by other humans, but they had never responded with anything except kindness.
Okay, so they spray-painted Steg's car, but that was just good, clean fun. Besides, he had it coming to him... I know, I have more in common with Paul than I'll admit. But they would never hurt anyone, and they had always been kind to Mary, and they never feared me, even as Antubis. That meant more to me than I could say, but they seemed to know anyway.
I pulled my thoughts from my musings to focus on what they were talking about. They often knew more about what was happening in the hospital than I did.
"Tonight is the middle of te year," Christa was saying. "From now on, the days will get shorter and colder."
"It is also the middle of the cycle," Abel added, apparently refferring to the Lunar Cycle. "After tonight the moon will shrink, until she disappears completely."
"Who will light the night then?" Christa asked, seemingly concerned about the prospect of darkness.
"The stars will shine brighter without the moon to drown them out," her brother assured her, taking her hand.
The pair walked away from my corner of the kitchen, their talk turning to other matters. I listened as, somewhere, a clock began to strike the hour. Noon. The middle of the day.
