Comparison - The Eagle of the Ninth TV vs. Movie

Mar 27, 2017 22:06

Since the second half of the movie is very different from the TV show and the original book, so I only compare the first 3 episodes of the 1977 TV show with the movie. PS, although the movie was released in 2011, it was filmed in 2009.

TV Marcus had a huge helmet crest.

This is interesting!

I'm old enough to have watched the TV version when it was broadcast :-/ and I never warmed to Christian Rodska as Esca, though I do think that Esca should be bigger than Marcus -- Roman writers described the Celts as tall, and powerfully built, even the women!

Anthony Higgins I remember as the perfect Marcus, quick and clever and interested in other people, which is why he's so convincing as an oculist. Maybe you never get over your first Marcus!

Anthony Higgins' Marcus is very charming. You can tell he is trained actor. Watching his Marcus is enjoyable, but I always feel he was acting. Tatum's Marcus feels raw and natural. I really like how Tatum portrayed Marcus physical pain and loneliness in the movie.

I also checked Higgins' IMDb profile. He's 6'2". He's one inch taller than Tatum.

I didn't realise Anthony Higgins was so tall, but he's very slender.

Well, I always feel Channing's Marcus was underappreciated in the Eagle fandom, especially in 2011. It probably had something to do with his character having not much to do in the second half of the movie. Do I want to see movie Marcus being smart? Yes; Do I want Channing's Marcus speaking Esca's language? I am not sure. Channing is good with physical performances, but doing accent might not be his strongest suit, esp. Scottish accent. BTW, In Kingsman 2, he will have a southern accent. He's from the South, so I guess he will be fine.

Oh, the Celtic speaking could have been only suggested. You know, like you see him talking with a random peasant, but you don't hear them.
I don't doubt he will be charming speaking with a southern drawl. I thought it was fine when he briefly spoke French words in the Hateful Eight.

I agree that he is a very physical actor. But he can convey so much that way.

Oh, this was very interesting, thank you. I will watch the TV version too now.:)
As I can see from these pictures, the series is much more like the book.
