Jupiter Ascending Review

I went to see Jupiter Ascending yesterday at 7pm. There were about 20-30 people. I chose 3D, but the theatre got their projector messed up. So the first 10 minutes were ruined. I thought the theatre would give us a free ticket for compensation. It didn't happen

I saw the movie in regular format. The Abrasax kids just seemed bratty and so they spent all this effort and money to be immortal but then they could also get reincarnated (the mom seemed pretty sure of it if she wrote her future self into her will).

The movie influences where just everywhere. Eddie Redmayne's performance reminds me of Gary Oldman, he's done weirdo over the top characters and people still think he's a good actor.

I liked the stoic Channing Scenes. It fit his kinda mysterious character but he needs to work on the nuance.

The sex scene was very Captain Kirk ;) Overall the movie kinda reminded me of Fifth Element but Fifth element is cooler.

Jupiter and her family and the story about telescope were cute.

And yeah right away I was like is Channing on rollerskates? How very 80's low budget sci-fi like the movie Solarbabies. Loved the wings though.

The wings are probably the best things about the movie. But how did he get it back? Jupiter and her family are okay, but she didn't really grow much other than appreciating her family more

I thought the space cops or whatever they were gave him back his wings.

Balem definitely was just a rich brat, and what happened with the sister? I thought she would try harder to steal earth from jupiter.

I thought the ear thing was their attempt to make aliens that are still pretty though, I mean they have to change something to make them stand out as aliens but still Humanoid enough that people find them pretty. It doesn't always work. Look at Avatar. I think they made Caine blond to avoid the Mirror Spock comparisons.

I still don't know if he grows wings or these are mechanical ones.

But Sean Bean looks normal even he has bee genes. Gugu is a very attractive girl, but when I first saw her ears in this movie, I was appalled. Anyway, the movie is tracking to make less than 20M this weekend. Let's see how well it is received overseas.

But people say Caine looks like Mugatu from Zoolander. I would rather see Caine transforming into a wolf at some point. Well, well, at least he has wings. I need a new userpic now.

Speaking of why did Channing take this role, did you remember the interview he did with SHARP magazine? He said: "I just did a film, I won’t say what name it is, but, I don’t actually know how this movie is going to do, but I know when I went to go do it, it was a huge risk. I wanted to just go do it because I loved the idea of the movie. It probably could not work, and at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter to me, if my intention was really pure and clear. You can’t just want to go out and win. The result of winning your opening weekend, or whether it got good reviews, can’t be what you’re going after. It has to be the actual process of going out and creating something. I think that’s all I’ve really tried to do

Forgot to say, I enjoyed all the references to the "legion" !

Also, how nice of Channing and the boys to visit troups in Middle East. Really.

That said, it is interesting how his MMXXL trailer comes out a few days before JA opens and then, there are photos of him in Middle East.

I want to know more stories from his legionnaire days. In a galaxy far far away, Caine might find his Esca. BTW, I also like the portable space suit, such a cool idea.

Speaking of Channing's trip to Afghanistan, he was there because he donated money to USO Foundation to build buildings, so troops can relax, watch movies and play video games there. The tour is to see those buildings and soldiers.

I had no idea he had done that. Wow! He certainly walks the talk!
Even more cool taht he went there to see how it was all coming along and to meet soldiers.
