I went to see White House Down tonight. I was surprised to see quite a few middle-aged couples there. Overall, the numbers of male and female in my theatre were about the same. I read the movie was not tracking too well, the prediction for the first weekend box office is between 30M - 40M. I hope it will score at least 35M.
Now the movie. I will give it 7.5 (out of 10). Visually, it cannot compete with movies like Iron Man 3 or Man of Steel (how come the budget is 140M?). But I like the bare-hand combat scenes, where Channing exceeds many action stars. The movie has quite a few light moments, however, it's not a comedy. The best parts have already been included in various promos. If you are like me, who watched all the promos before seeing the movie, you probably will feel less fun. Channing's acting has improved. I enjoy seeing him playing a father. He has this likability that makes people root for him. At the beginning, when the interviewer pointed out he didn't even have the mandatory bachelor degree, he argued that he went to night schools in order to become qualified. When I saw that scene, I felt the real emotion. Well done, Channing! Also Channing looks HOT through the movie, esp. the last five minutes.
Anyway, I feel the story could be better with more interesting villains. Channing is almost too good for this movie.
