Quick 21 Jump Street Review

Mar 16, 2012 18:46

I went to see 21 Jump Street early this afternoon. The theatre is not very full, more men than women, but the difference is not that huge. I watched a lot of spoilers/reviews before I went to the theatre, ( mild spoiler )

Interesting account.

Although it is not my type either and that I probably don't plan to see it, I'm delighted with its success.

I've looked at some forums and teenagers/young male adults seem to have a huge man crush on him right now. They have discovered what we knew all along : he is funny, endearing, down to earth.
Maybe because he plays the role of the unattainable jock who craves the friendship of the nerd they identify with?

Anyway, it is a brilliant move he made.

I hope Magic Mike is good, more than eye-candy and that it is a success as well.

That would be the shining proff that he can play three very different types of characters.

lol. A lot of young men said they used to dislike Channing (probably because a lot of women love Chan), but they think he is really good in 21 Jump Street.

No. There is a role reversal. After they were sent back to highschool, Chan's character became the unpopular kid. Now Channing is the underdog, the target audience (15-25 year old male) can finally connect to him.

My worry is that how can they sell this movie to straight men? Luckily, it's a comedy. Still, I am not sure how much a commercial success Magic Mike will be. Anyway, I will watch it in a theatre. I really hope they will release a trailer soon.
