It's very much a film aimed at Valentine's Day; unfortunately the marketing machine knows what sells.
I did see an amusing comment on Tumblr from someone who had also been to see The Vow that Channing had more chemistry with Jamie than most of his female co-stars ;)
> Well, it's a B movie Romance. The kind I usually don't pay to see, snubbishly enough. ;-)
Me neither. I didn't finish watching The Notebook. When I first saw Dear John on a plane, I swiched to another movie after 15 minutes. But after The Eagle, it's another story ;p
> that Channing charcter is less developped than Rachel's
True. And it seems that the producers and the director hired Channing just for his good look. They exploited his physique. They never planned to really develop his character. Judging from Channing's interviews, he fought for giving Leo some personality. In the earlier draft, Leo is even more a Mr. Perfect. he is always patient, never gets frustrated.
> I wonder what he would do if for once, the director and scriptwriter paid attention to his character and coached him.
I think the director of Dear John was a good one. Channing had a very touching father-and-son scene in it. Channing himself also admitted that scene was hard to do.
Haha, I should've checked your LJ before I asked! :D
Wonderful review. I love how insightful you are into Channing's strengths and weaknesses as an actor. From what you said though, I think I will hold off viewing until it comes out on dvd.
In a way, I think watch The Vow at home is actually a better idea. I can pause and drool over Channing's bare chest and ass, and freckles... the list goes on and on :)

Oh they knew it. The movie was to be released last year (after Valentine's Day), but they decided to wait till this year. And it paid off.
I still think The Eagle was not marketed correctly, but it was hard to sell.
