I wish something like this can happen between A/M

I listened to the audio book of "The Eagle of the Ninth" the past weekend, and finished the first 16 chapters. The author is good at creating some likeable characters, but I feel the movie will be better at visualizing the adventure. Anyway, this is not what I want to talk about now. You may know that the two leading men of the book are a Roman centurion Marcus and his British slave Esca. In one chapter, Marcus decided to bring Esca to a dangerous quest. Then someone said that Esca agreed to go with Marcus because Esca was a slave and he had no choice. Then Marcus did something that he planned to do some time ago - he freed Esca. (This happened in the book, but I don't know when it will happen in the movie) Anyway, there is a very touching moment. Basically Marcus told Esca that he set him free so Esca could choose to stay or to leave. Also Marcus said he would NOT ask a slave to go to a dangerous quest with him, but as a friend he would.

I so want something like this can happen between A/M. If we cannot get a reveal, how about Arthur rewarding Merlin free man status? If a commoner can become a knight in 313, Merlin can become a free man like Gaius did in ep. 1x06. Well, just my wishful thinking.
