The monthly book club read was Under the Banner of Heaven. I question the sanity of those who voted for this book for a general neighborhood club for which Wicked was exceptionally dark, but whatever. I read the book and showed up, not sure what to expect from the conversation

Interesting. It would be politeness that would hold me back from the obvious incredulous line of questions of the guy. Instead of “Dude, how can you not consider Joseph Smith to be a total whackjob? I mean, golden plates? Utah? C'mon!!!?” and then of course the followups of “Are you guys really serious about the whole goofy underwear bit?” and “Do you get discounts on Donnie Osmond albums?”

But the very questions the book raises are tough to avoid… “Do you as an LDS member choose to consider these fruit loops as just as divinely connected as J. Smith or disconnect and admit your faith is unreasonable and hypocritical?”

Yeah, sort of tough to ask over coffee isn't it?

“Oh, love your TV commercials by the way!”
