“How do you know that name?” Welling hissed at Jensen. His face had immediately paled but the gun in his hand was still steadily aimed directly at the grad student’s chest.
“It always struck at me how personal your attacks were toward Jared. You seemed to know and implied things about him that’s not known to the public.”
“It’s called being a police detective!” The cop sneered. But Jensen wasn’t fooled. He continued to probe, pushing the dark-haired man, hoping that the cop will reveal his secret agenda.
“I started my own research on you, Detective. I was surprised to discover a few facts. You were orphaned at an early age, your parents died in a car accident. You were then sent to live with a distant aunt and uncle, who had six kids of their own. Must have been a difficult childhood.”
“Not compared to your brother’s,” Welling snidely remarked. A flair of rage bloomed inside Jensen’s chest. He narrowed his emerald green eyes but his voice remained composed and unruffled.
“You got into a lot of fights with the local neighborhood kids. You were known to be a troublemaker, a loner. No one was expecting you to join the police academy. Nor did they expect you to excel and become a detective. But I’m thinking that it all has to do with a certain police captain by the name of Jeffery Dean Morgan. Or should I say the disgraced Captain who used his authority and power to illegally and unethically advance his career?” Jensen needled.
“Shut your face! You know nothing about the Captain. All you care about is Padalecki. You don’t care about the people he murdered and the lives that he’s ruined.”
“Is Elena one of the lives that he had ruined?”
“Don’t you dare say her name! You are not worthy!” Welling snarled.
“Worthy? She fucked a man that ruined her father’s professorial career. The same man that you said murdered and destroyed lives. She sounds like a whore to me.” Jensen sneered. He knew he was playing with fire. He saw the unstable rage reflecting in Welling’s face. The detective was clutching the gun in his hand, his finger on the trigger. But despite the danger, Jensen continued to push. He needed to expose the truth.
“SHUT UP! You know nothing!”
“Then explain it to me. Tell me why this so-called innocent girl betrayed her father. How she betrayed you.”
Jensen’s words finally spurred the detective into action. He holstered his gun and stormed over to where the engineer stood. He grabbed the younger man, his fingers digging into Jensen’s biceps. His anger and focus was directed towards the captive in his grip. He never saw the quick hand signal that Jensen had given nor the moving shadows that edged closer to them. Instead his dark blue eyes were clouded with memories of the past.
“I would have washed out from the academy if it wasn’t for Captain Morgan. He saw something in me, a punk ass kid who knew shit about life. He took me under his wing, gave me a family, support, a purpose in life. He was a good man. He loved his daughter and the job that he was committed to.”
“And Elena?”
“I didn’t meet Elena until I was a rookie cop on the force. She made all the human tragedy that I was exposed to on the job worth it. When you’re a cop, you see all the cruelty and pain people inflict on one another. You get cynical and begin to forget why you’re upholding the law. But Elena reminded me every single day why I cared. She made me remember there were people in this world worth fighting for. She was pure, innocent, everything you could possibly wish for.”
“So she was a living saint.”
“Shut up! The only reason why Padalecki keeps you around is for his sick amusement. Do you think he loves you? He had Elena. She gave up everything for him! And he still tossed her away like she was yesterday’s trash. He destroyed her! I tried to tell her that he was only using her but she wouldn’t listen to me. She believed that she could change him. Make him leave the mob life and make peace with her father.”
“She sounds like most of the women in Jared’s life…delusional,” Jensen snarked. The cop growled out loud before quickly backhanding him. The force of the blow knocked Jensen on his knees.
“I’m fine. Don’t come near me!” Jensen barked hastily, feeling blood dripping down from his split lower lip. “I don’t need your help. I can get up by myself.” He replied when he saw the puzzled expression on the detective’s face, covering for his previous words.
“I wasn’t going to offer you any assistance. As far as I’m concerned, you deserve to be on your knees. Isn’t that your typical position being Padalecki’s fucktoy?”
Jensen grimaced when he stood up. He had abrasions on his palms from his fall. “Sounds like you have firsthand knowledge, Welling. Let me guess, you walked in on Elena giving Jared a blow job? I’m guessing she was moaning like a ten dollar hooker. Where’s her pureness now?” Jensen sneered. He paused when he noticed the dark and devastated expression on Welling’s face.
“Shit…you really did walk in on them!” Jensen muttered. He narrowed his eyes at the cop. He had to be careful. He didn’t want to push so hard that the detective resorted to violence instead of talking and revealing his full intentions. His gut was telling him that Welling was becoming too unstable, caught in the painful memories of the past. Jensen needed to try another tactic if he wanted to get more answers from the man.
He gently asked, “That must have been painful. I’m sorry. But why do you keep blaming yourself? It’s not your fault if she chose another man.”
“It is my fault! I should have told her father. But she begged me not to. How could I say no to my angel? The beautiful girl that I loved was changing in front of my eyes. Her gentle soul became heartless, pushing away anyone that tried to warn her away from that Padalecki scum.
I knew that eventually Padalecki would show his true colors. He would eventually grow bored with the game he was playing and discard her like the rest of his harem of lovers. And three weeks later he did. After he made sure her father watched a video of them having sex. It destroyed her. The humiliation and the betrayal were too much for her gentle soul.”
“What happened?”
“She began taking illegal drugs to cope with the pain. Padalecki had gotten her addicted to the stuff. He wanted her to become a drug addict, guaranteeing an even greater embarrassment to her father, since Captain Morgan had made a vow to eliminate the illegal drugs pouring into our city. My sweet innocent angel was corrupted by that monster! She changed into someone I hardly recognized. Elena became a common criminal because her drug addiction, willing to lie, steal even whore herself for her next hit. He turned her into that!”
“How did she die?”
“Drug overdose. He destroyed her life because of his grudge with Captain Morgan. The captain lost his job and then his daughter. He never recovered. He’s a shell of a man now. His mind lost to the memories of the past. That fucking Padalecki bastard destroyed my family!”
“And that’s when you started your campaign against Padalecki. Your vow of revenge.” Jensen deduced. He was horrified by the destruction of the Morgan family. But in order to attain his goal, he knew he needed to control his emotions. He could analyze the information Welling told him later.
“I knew with Padalecki’s team of lawyers that I could never get to him by legal means. Hell… half the judges and politicians in the city are on his payroll. In order to get him, I had to use the system.”
“Illegal wiretapping and surveillance.” Jensen guessed remembering how frequently and often Jared had their home swept for listening devices.
“You’re damn straight I had him watched and listened to. I learned a lot of information about him. For example, I’m sure you didn’t realize that he had you and your whole family vetted before you even moved into that house you currently live in. He knew exactly who you were. Hell… he probably knew all of your weaknesses and had blackmail material ready to use against you if he needed it.” Welling said. Jensen continued to display a calm exterior. But inside, his mind was racing with the new information. He flashed back to the night he first met Colin and Jared. Realization twisted inside his gut. Jared knew his name, when he had never introduced himself. He started to wonder if Colin knew about Jamie’s history. It would explain why the boy had lied about the fake uncle molesting him.
“I can see it in your face, you still don’t believe me. Why do you think your house stayed vacant for so long? Or why you even got such a good deal when your family bought it? Because it was Padalecki who decided who his neighbors would be. It wouldn’t surprise me if he planned to nail your ass from the very beginning.”
Jensen narrowed his eyes. He immediately knew that Welling had overplayed his hand. He could believe Jared having his family investigated before allowing them to purchase a house across the street from the Padalecki mansion. The mobster was extremely paranoid and protective when it came to his family. But he did not believe for a second that Jared had lustful intentions toward him until after the fateful night that they met. A stray thought formed in his mind. He frowned at the detective.
“So you knew his house was under attack the night I met Jared... Because of your surveillance on his home...?” Jensen accused the man.
“Yes, I knew that his enemies had entered his fortified mansion.”
“Why didn’t you do anything?”
“He’s a criminal! He deserves to die! It would be fitting that one of his own competitors would be the one that took him out.”
“And what about his son? He’s twelve years old!”
“He’s a Padalecki. His age won’t excuse him for the future crimes that he will commit in his family’s name.”
“Is that what you told his mentally unstable mother? For her to murder her own child by God’s order?”
“I never told Alexis to kill her son!”
“Then what exactly did you tell her, Castiel?”
“I questioned her about her husband and his whereabouts. I also asked her about his associates.”
“You didn’t imply to her that you were an angel?”
“Why would I tell her that I’m an angel?”
“Because you knew she had a history of mental illness. You said so yourself, you had the Padalecki house wired. You probably overheard her family discussing her mental instability. Or even hear her speak about the angel voices that she heard. Why else would she call you Castiel, a known angel of the Lord? You used her delusions against her in order to obtain information about Padalecki.”
“So what if I did? Why do the cops have to play by the rules when criminals disregard them all the time? I did what I had to for the greater good.”
“You drove her to the brink of madness.”
“Padalecki did that all by himself! He fucking cheated on her constantly! He drove her to murdering those children! Those kids were from his ex-lovers. She killed them in revenge.”
“How did she know that he was cheating on her? Did you tell her?”
Welling glanced away, his jaw tightened. Jensen narrowed his eyes.
“I repeat, did you tell her that he was cheating on her?”
“I did what I had to do.”
“So you told her that her husband that she was deeply in love with was cheating on her with multiple women in order to break her trust in Jared. Was it even true? Or did you make it up?”
“He can’t be faithful to anyone. Even if it wasn’t with those women, it was always someone else that he fucked behind Alexis’s back. She knew that. Or else she wouldn’t have believed me so quickly.”
“You drove her to her breaking point. That’s why she began killing those kids. Jared was her anchor. She fought against the voices with her faith in her husband. When you broke that, she swirled into a vortex of insanity. You played a part in those murders she committed.”
“Bullshit! She fell apart because of Padalecki. That’s what he does to anyone who loves him. That’s what happened to Elena and what had happened to Alexis. If you continue to stay with him, he’ll destroy you too.”
“But didn’t you do the same thing to Alexis? You destroyed her marriage with lies and made her attack her own son! She almost murdered him.”
“I never told her that her son was the Anti-Christ! She came up with that herself!”
“How did you know that Alexis thought Colin was the Anti-Christ? I never told you that.” Jensen questioned, his green eyes flaring with accusation and anger.
“I must have read it in the police report.”
“No, it wasn’t in the police report nor was it in any medical file either. The only other person who would have known that Alexis thought her son was the Anti-Christ was her so-called angel. And that angel was you! You knew what she thought her own son was. You also knew that she planned to kill him. Or at least had a suspicion. Yet you kept quiet and put a six-year-old boy’s life in danger at the hands of a mentally unstable woman. What kind of police detective would do that?”
Welling growled and grabbed Jensen’s shirt; screaming into his face. “What kind of son would I be if I didn’t avenge my family?! Padalecki is a monster. He destroyed everyone that I loved. He turned the innocent girl I worshipped into a drug-addicted whore who would do anything for her next fix. The man I considered my adopted father became an empty shell all because he made a mistake of speaking to the Padalecki spawn. You ask me what kind of cop I am? The kind that puts monsters like him behind bars!”
“Detective Welling… please… let Mr. Ackles go.” Felicia called out. The detective looked away from Jensen’s angry face and realized that there were both federal agents and Jensen’s bodyguards crouched behind the headstones of the surrounding graves. They had their guns drawn and pointed at him. The red-haired federal agent also had her hand placed on top of her holstered gun on her right hip.
Tom’s blue eyes zeroed back to Jensen’s face. “You wore a wire? You fucking set me up?”
“I want you to remember this the next time you even think of calling my kid the Anti-Christ!” Jensen retorted before he swiftly balled his right fist and slammed it directly into Welling’s crotch. The man cried out and dropped to the ground, clutching at his groin while moaning in pain. The bodyguards immediately swarmed the man, tying up his hands and feet to prevent his escape. Once they had secured the police detective, they stepped back and allowed the federal agents to apprehend the cop, officially reading him his rights as they dragged him away toward a parked vehicle.
“Did you get what you need to put him away?” Jensen asked, his eyes following the struggling detective fighting against the men that were leading him to the Bureau-issued black SUV.
“Considering you got him to admit to illegally using police-funded equipment for wiretapping and surveillance which is already a five-year jail sentence, I’d say ‘yes’. But he also implicated himself in knowing that an attempted murder was going to occur and doing nothing about it? That’s additional 3-5 years he’d be facing with his sentence. I wouldn’t be surprised if the DA pushes for conspiracy to commit murder.”
“Thank you for your assistance.” Jensen replied before turning away. His fingers lightly touched his throbbing split lip.
“He’s going to kill someone over of this. You shouldn’t have allowed the authorities to intervene,” Misha lectured, the silent man had suddenly appeared by his side.
“If I didn’t, I would have never gotten Welling to admit to his crimes.”
“You still should have told Jared.”
“No, I wanted to handle it my way. And I did. Now Welling will spend the next few years of his life in a jail cell… where he belongs.”
“It wasn’t your place to decide.”
“The Hell it wasn’t! Colin is my kid. And I don’t want Jared to blow up and do something rash. Justice has been served this way.”
“He’s not going to like it.”
“Don’t care. It’s done.” Jensen replied, cold finality in his voice. He thought he would feel relieved after his charade with the officer was over. But instead a deep pit of tension developed in his gut. He knew that Welling had told him many lies but there was also some truth in his statements. Like it or not, Jared had lied to him. His teeth clenched in repressed anger and betrayal. A trickle of blood dripped from his lips.
“Jensen, wait. I need to know something.” Felicia called out when she saw Jensen stalking toward his Impala.
The weary engineer turned around and raised an eyebrow at the Special Agent. Felicia saw how emotionally drained the young man was.
“I’d like to think that the reason why you picked me for this sting operation of yours was because you have some respect and trust in me. So I’m going to give you my two cents, whatever it’s worth to you. It’s clear to me that you feel deeply for the Padaleckis. But… ever since they came into your life, there has not been a moment of peace for you. You’ve been a constant target and frankly I’m worried about you.”
“Don’t be. I can take care of myself.” Jensen said wearily, his green eyes distant.
“Luck always runs out, you know. You could have a bright future with NASA. But with Padalecki in the picture there’s no guarantee that NASA will offer you a permanent position.”
“I know, Special Agent Day…”
“Please… listen to me. You are special. I know what you did, how you escaped and there is no one in this world that could have done what you did! Your mind, Jensen is incredible. I know you are meant to do great things. But Padalecki will drag you down. Opportunities that you would have had are gone because of your association with the mobster. Is he worth it, Jensen? Especially since he’s been lying to you from the beginning?”
+++++++
“Jensen, what the fuck do you think you are doing?” Jared snarled from the bedroom doorway.
The engineer barely glanced at the glowering man. He knew the moment he stepped into the house that Misha had already given Jared a detailed account of what happened. His mind was still spinning with the information that Jared had been lying to him. For the first time in his life, Jensen began doubting his decisions.
When it came down to making hard choices, Jensen always took the path that he believed in, even if it was a more difficult decision that would cost him. But after listening to Welling and hearing the pain in the man’s voice, he began to doubt in his choice of being with Jared. He knew the type of lifestyle that Jared had but he had always believed that the big man never lied to him, that there were no personal secrets between them. It was the only way Jensen would be able to accept his relationship with the mob boss. But the idea that Jared had been lying to him since the beginning shook his entire foundation.
He needed space, somewhere to think and to process all his emotions before he could make any more decisions. He stalked over to the dresser, yanking open a drawer, intending to grab a few items to stay at a hotel for the night. He knew he couldn’t think with Jared sleeping next to him.
A big, firm hand tightly wrapped around his arm, yanking it away from the clothes in the drawer.
“Do you think I’m going to let you leave me?” Jared growled into his ears. The rage and hurt in the mobster’s voice was palpable. But Jensen’s attention was riveted to the drawer. His and Jared’s clothes were completely mixed in the cabinet. It was difficult to distinguish where his began and Jared’s ended. He faintly realized that the clothes symbolized his new life these past couple of months. Jared had become such a big part of his life without him realizing it. He knew he could never simply walk away from the man. He was fooling himself if he did. Jared had gotten through all his walls and refused to let go. The man was in his blood. But he still felt the rage festering inside him. He was unable to look at the mobster without a hot fury burning through him.
“Jensen, talk to me. Please...” Jared begged.
Jensen’s eyes snapped to the mobster’s face. It was the first time he’d heard Jared pleading with anyone. He saw the anger and hurt in the man’s eyes. But it was the fearful vulnerability in the multi-colored depths that made all his anger drain away from him. Despite all of Jared’s faults, he knew that the big man loved him deeply.
“You lied to me.”
“I did not.”
“Don’t bullshit me. Omission is the same fucking thing as lying.”
“Don’t you remember how you were in the beginning of our relationship? If I had told you then that I had your family investigated, you would have thrown me out of your life.”
“I would not.”
“Now who is the one lying? It took you a very long time to admit your feelings for me. If I told you that I had you investigated, you would have use that as an excuse to push me away.”
“You lied to me! You broke my trust in you!”
“I’m sorry. I cannot go back to make it right. But I promise you that I have not lied or kept any secrets from you since.”
“How do you expect me to believe you?” Jensen snarled breaking away from Jared’s possessive hold.
“The same way that I expect you won’t run every time you face an obstacle from my past.”
“Fuck you! I never ran from you!”
“What do you call this? You were about to pack your things and leave me!” Jared roared, stepping away to grab a nearby lamp and throwing it across the room. The fragile glass shattered against the wall.
“Asshole, I liked that lamp!” Jensen yelled. His green eyes glared at the big man. Even thought Jared was furious with him, Jensen instinctively was not afraid of him. He knew that Jared would never hurt him.
“Are you going to leave me now? Use this one mistake I have committed against me? Against us?” Jared quietly asked. Just as quickly as his anger had appeared, it had fleetingly evaporated. His shoulders slumped, his face devastated with the loss of his beloved.
Jensen sighed. As much as he was hurt by Jared’s actions, he couldn’t bear for the man to be pain especially if he knew he was the cause of it. He walked over to Jared until he was inches in front of the mobster.
“Let’s be honest here….one mistake? Come on. I know you made at least a dozen. Must I even mention the Impala incident?” Jensen teased. But he immediately regretted his words when the big man flinched.
“I’m sorry too.” Jensen hastily replied wanting to take away the grief in Jared’s eyes. “I’m not going to leave you. I freaked out. And I’m sorry that my gut reaction was to pack a bag. In all honesty, I don’t think I would have been able to walk out that door. But you can’t ever lie to me again. Because the next time, I won’t hesitate, I’ll be gone.”
Happiness and relief immediately filled Jared’s eyes. The mobster engulfed his precious beloved in a soul-searing, passionate kiss.
“I promise never to break your trust in me again. I love you. Let’s get married tonight.” Jared muttered against Jensen’s plush lips.
“What? I’m not marrying you now! I have to finish my finals first.” The engineer griped but he tilted his face upward to kiss his lover as his fingers ran through the man’s silky chestnut brown locks. He could feel Jared smile against his lips.
“Shit…I just agreed to marrying you haven’t I?” Jensen grumbled.
“After your finals, which are six weeks from now!” Jared crowed, his eyes lit with victorious glee. Despite his hounding on their marriage, this was the first time that Jensen had openly agreed to accept his proposal.
“Stalker,” Jensen groused with little heat in his voice. He knew that they needed a longer conversation about what had happened but for the moment he was desperate to feel Jared’s body close to his once more. The mob boss seemed to feel the same way as he suddenly began yanking Jensen’s clothes off his body. Not be outdone by the big man, Jensen clawed at Jared’s clothes, ripping buttons from his black dress shirt. Soon the naked lovers fell into bed, consumed by their passion and devotion for one another.
“I love you, Jared.” Jensen whispered as he gazed at his lover. Jared smiled, pushing the engineer’s legs apart as his big lube-covered fingers breached Jensen’s tight hole. Each thrust and twist of his fingers had Jensen moaning in wanton lust. Jared’s eyes darkened to black with desire as he watched his precious beloved keening underneath him, Jensen’s beautiful face flushed dark pink with passion.
“I love you, too, my beloved.” Jared replied before plunging his thick hard cock into Jensen’s channel. He began hammering into Jensen, nailing the engineer’s prostate each time he slammed into the younger man. The pace was hard and fast, both men desperate for each other as their frantic movements mirrored one another. Their hands frenziedly touched exposed skin, lips roughly kissed and licked with overwhelming need to mark and claim their territories. Jensen’s heart beat rapidly in his chest, his body trembled with passion as his eyes observed every single open expression of longing in Jared’s face as the mobster relentlessly pounded into him.
“Mine!” Jared cried before spilling himself deep inside Jensen. The engineer soon followed, coming untouched except for the feel of Jared’s muscled abs against his swollen, sensitive dick. Jared heavy body remained on top of his, pressing him down into the plush mattress. Instead of feeling claustrophobic, Jensen felt comforted by the familiar weight and smell of his lover. His closed his eyes, suddenly feeling exhaustion dragging him under. As he drifted off to his dreams, all the doubts that he had had slowly melted away.
Stay with me forever, beloved.

“Dude, are you wearing a bracelet?” Momoa teased him. Jensen glowered at his best friend. They were sitting in the Ackles’ study room for a last minute tutoring session. On top of his own projects and tests, he also worried about Jason obtaining top marks in his classes. He knew that the football player worked too hard all year round to do poorly on his final exams.
“Focus on your studying, Asshat.” Jensen replied after rolling his eyes at the jock.
“Ohhh… don’t tell me. Is that your engagement bracelet?” Momoa slyly continued to harass. He gawked when he saw Jensen’s blush.
“Holy shit! That is your engagement bracelet!” Momoa hooted, chuckling at the embarrassed engineer.
“Shut up!” Jensen hissed before glancing down fondly at the beautiful leather bracelet on his left wrist with the handmade beads woven around the edges. He still remembered his reaction when Jared had presented his bracelet during their family dinner.
“You are my precious beloved. I am thankful for having you in my life each day. I swear to never betray your trust and love again.”
Jensen narrowed his eyes at the mobster. He was surprised that neither Colin nor Jamie made a smart comment about Jared’s sudden declaration. His shock further increased when the big man slid an expensively-wrapped jewelry box next to his plate.
“That better not be a friggin’ engagement ring.” Jensen growled. Despite his tone, his hands lightly trembled as he continued to stare down at the black velvet box the torn wrappings had revealed.
“Open it!” Colin whined, his hazel eyes bright with anticipation.
Jensen glanced up at Jared. The man had a tender expression on his face; his multi-colored eyes steadily returned his gaze. Devotion and love shone clearly on his handsome face as his right hand firmly gripped Jensen’s muscled thigh beneath the dining room table.
The engineer took a deep breath, reached over and opened the box. A beautiful brown leather bracelet adorned with an intricate pattern of different shades of brown beads lay in the center of the box.
“What is this?” Jensen muttered, his green eyes never once leaving the bracelet. Jared leaned closer, carefully picking up the wristlet and wrapping it around Jensen’s left wrist and closing the clasp.
“I picked it out. I hope you like it.” Jamie mumbled, causing his brother to sharply look at him.
“Dad wanted to get you a white gold band but I thought it was too boring. I wanted to get you a bracelet with diamonds on it but Jamie vetoed that idea. He said it was too ‘blingy’ for you. He said you’d prefer something more subtle or else you wouldn’t wear it. Do you like it, Pops? This is from all of us. It represents our family.” Colin proclaimed, his eyes sparkling with happiness.
“You sure laid on the guilt pretty thick there. I’m impressed.” Jamie snarked.
“Hey, if you want him to wear that ordinary bracelet you gotta’ go for the big guns.” Colin retorted giving Jensen an outrageous wink.
“I…like it.” Jensen croaked; his throat thick with undefined emotions. He was immediately embraced in a pair of strong arms, his body crushed against a hard muscular frame.
“I am yours, beloved.”
“Since I’m wearing this, I’m yours too, I guess,” Jensen reluctantly admitted, smiling up at his mobster before submitting to a mind-blowing kiss.
“Oh gross….they are making out again, Jamie!”
Jensen grinned at the memory. Green eyes challengingly met amused brown ones. “So what if it’s an engagement bracelet. It’s mine and I like it.”
“That’s lame. But I must be pretty pathetic as well because I like it too.” Momoa replied grinning at the grad student.
Jensen rolled his eyes at his friend and ordered him to return to his studies. The two friends spent the rest of the afternoon reviewing and studying. Laughter and friendly ribbing filled the room in the fading sunlight.

“Why did you call this meeting for the Board of Directors, Duchovny? This better be good and not one of your harebrained ideas. We are very busy people and do not have time to play your games.”
“I understand, Dr. Pileggi. I called this meeting to discuss the future of the NASA program, more specifically the technological advancement in our space crafts. In order to stay competitive and be the leader in our field, we need to recruit and retain only the most brilliant aerospace engineers who can ultimately re-define this technology.”
“We are already doing that with our internship program. You already know this. What are you getting at?” Dr. Robert Patrick asked. He knew that Duchovny had a reputation for being a brilliant but difficult person to work with. However they put up with him due to his pure intelligence.
“He’s talking about Jensen Ackles. He wants to make sure his boy wonder remains in the program. Quite frankly we should dismiss this hoodlum. He will bring nothing but disgrace to us due to his association with the mob.” Dr. William Davis sneered. He always hated Duchovny and never understood why the man was given so much leeway with the Board. If it had been up to him, he would have had the scientist fired long ago.
“If you reject Jensen Ackles from this program, it will be the biggest professional mistake you’ll ever make.” David snarled, glaring at Davis. They had a mutual dislike for each other. The older man had always resented Duchovny’s presence, viewing him as a rival. It was Davis that had blocked Duchovny from a position on the NASA Board of Directors.
“Ackles is nothing but a pretty face with a gangster boyfriend. There is nothing special about him. We have a dozen candidates that are more distinguished than him. I say we replace him and chose a more deserving candidate.” Davis proclaimed.
“Will, let David explain to us why Mr. Ackles is so important to our program.” Dr. Annabeth Gish calmly said. She was known as the voice of reason on the board. Being the only woman among men, she was used to their volatile temperament.
“You have seen the evidence that I had brought back to you on how Jensen used junk materials to fashion a highly complex and creative device to facilitate his escape from his recent kidnapping. Can you imagine what he will be capable of dreaming up if he had state of the art equipment at his disposal? He’s not just smart, he’s brilliant, imaginative, and he has heart. If you push him out of this program you doom yourselves to mediocrity.”
“Those are some powerful words, Dr. Duchovny. Are you willing to stake your reputation on this young man?” Patrick asked, his light blue eyes assessing the agitated man.
“Everyone here knows my greatest desire… to be able to walk on Mars in my lifetime. I have met many great minds, both men and women who are highly intelligent, dedicated and ambitious. But none of them possesses the quality, the passion, the innovative ideas that Jensen has. I believe that he will lead us to a new generation of aerospace technology. I see the future in Jensen Ackles.”
“He may be brilliant but his boyfriend is a mobster. Not just any mobster, mind you, but THE mobster. Therefore he is corrupted, spoiled by association. NASA cannot stand behind a man that lies down with organized crime.” Pileggi bluntly pointed out.
“Then I guess the question you really have to ask yourself is this. Who do you want the future leader of space travel to be? Because if you bounce Jensen out of our program, I guarantee you that Padalecki will form his own aerospace corporation. And you better believe he has the money to do so. That would mean that future space travel will be controlled by the mob.”
“You don’t know that! This is absurd! Why are we still here listening to this drivel?” Davis furiously exclaimed standing up from his seat.
“Sit down, Will. Because Duchovny may be a bastard but he’s right most of the time. And we all have seen Ackles’s work. It was one of the reasons why we recruited him earlier than anyone else. The boy is pure genius.” Dr. Nicholas Lea finally spoke up. All eyes immediately stared at him. Even though each board member was considered equal, it was a known fact that the ultimate power rested with Nick Lea.
“How much are you willing to risk, clever fox, if you are wrong?” Lea asked him, his lips curved into an amused smile but his blue eyes remained sharp and cool.
David smiled. “There are a surprisingly limited number of things that I believe in. I believe in the cold hard principles of science. I believe that the truth is out there among the stars and planets. And I believe in Jensen Ackles.”
Lea narrowed his icy blue eyes, assessing the depth of emotion in Duchovny’s voice. “Let us hope your hunch about Ackles proves to be true. I will give him one year to prove himself to us.”
“That’s where you are wrong, Nick. He only needs two months. But we will need at least a year to prove ourselves worthy to him.”

“Jared….Jamie…Colin? Where are you guys?” Jensen wearily called out. He received no answer throughout the silent house as he staggered toward the bedroom. He had finally completed his last exam for his graduate study program. He had spent the last few weeks intensely studying for his tests, hardly eating or sleeping. He knew the margin of error was slim but he was determined to earn top marks in all of his classes. Jensen knew his future was secure but it still didn’t temper his driving need to excel in work that he loved.
He collapsed onto the spacious plush bed, his brain hazy with fatigue. Every bone in his body felt weighed down with exhaustion.
“Jared…” He muttered, closing his tired eyes. He missed the mobster deeply despite sleeping next to the man every night. For the last few weeks, he was consumed in his studies; he hardly had any time for his family and most importantly for Jared. He became a ghost in his own house; his entire focus was on his lessons. Instead of becoming angry and resentful at the lack of attention Jensen was giving him, Jared surprised him by understanding his predicament. The mobster supported him and encouraged him to continue his extreme study regiment.
Now that his final exam was over, he wanted to see Jared. It felt like he had been away from his family for months. He wanted to get out of bed and look for them, remembering Jared whispering in his ear that he was staying home today. However the big man was missing and Jensen was too tired to get up. His eyes drooped and he quickly drifted off to sleep.
“Jensen….get up.”
Jensen shrugged away the firm hands tugging him up from the bed. He batted the annoying arms pulling him up and twisted around to bury his face into the cushioned pillow.
“Jensen…get up. You are going to miss it.”
“Go away.” Jensen groused, irritation in his sleep rough voice. He still refused to open his eyes.
“Beloved, get up or I will be forced to carry you. Like. A. Girl.”
“Asshole, wadda ya want?” Jensen growled, blinking his bloodshot eyes open. He groaned when he saw Jared neatly dressed in an expensive black tailored suit. He, on the other hand, was still wearing his wrinkled three-day-old t-shirt and worn jeans. But somehow he knew that his appearance did not bother Jared. The man always thought that Jensen looked good regardless of how sloppy and messy his clothes were.
“I want you to come with me to the family room.”
“Why?” Jensen continued to argue. But he allowed himself to be gently dragged out of the bedroom toward the family room.
“I have a surprise for you.”
“I hate surprises,” Jensen complained, lifting up his left hand to rub his tired eyes. The short nap had allowed his body some well-deserved rest, but he was still tired. He glanced down at his left wrist where the leather bracelet was still secured. He had never taken off the band after Jared had put it on him. Even when he showered, the bracelet remained on.
“You will like this one,” Jared promised, pushing open the door to the family room.
“I’m hungry; can’t we eat first before you show me? And it better not be something pervy. I’m not in the mood.”
“My ears! I’m scarred for life.” Colin complained with a smirk on his lips.
Jensen stood at the doorway and gape at the scene. The family room was transformed. All the furniture had been removed and replaced with elegant and refined decorations. In the center of the room stood a minster holding a bible in his hands. Both Colin and Jamie flanked his right side wearing matching black, tailored suits.
“What the Hell is going on?” Jensen demanded, his heart racing inside his chest. He gawked at the people in the room, his eyes frantically jumped from one person to the next.
“Your exams are over. We are getting married.” Jared nonchalantly replied.
“Married? I thought the wedding ceremony was a couple of weeks from now.”
“That ceremony is for the public, to show the wealth, power and prestige of the Padaleckis and how proud we are of welcoming the Ackleses into our family. But this ceremony is for us alone. This will be our true wedding ceremony...” Jared said, as his right hand gently stroked down Jensen’s left cheek to the side of his neck.
“He wants to marry you now so you won’t get cold feet later.” Jamie pointed out.
“Dude, you are ruining the romantic moment!” Colin hissed.
“I thought you didn’t like to see them get it on.” Jamie retorted.
“I want to see them get married. I want to see Pops legally and officially become part of our family. So shut up!”
“Brat.” Jamie muttered but remained silent when the preteen gave him a warning glare.
Jensen grinned at their interactions, charmed to see how comfortable Jamie seemed to be in his own skin. Despite their quick spat, the two boys stood close to one another, unconsciously drawing comfort from each other’s presence. Jensen looked up at the adoring mobster standing in front of him. All the panic and anxiety he felt began melting away as he continued to look into familiar multi-colored eyes.
“You are going to make me marry you in my oldest pair of jeans?” Jensen teased.
“You are beautiful regardless of what you wear. Plus if I had asked you to change your clothes when you just woke up from your nap, I doubt my head would still be attached to my body.” Jared snarked.
“Bastard.”
“I may be a bastard but not a stupid one when it comes to dealing with you. Will you marry me…now?”
Jensen glared at Jared trying to keep the man in suspense but he could not prevent the smile that broke across his face.
“Fine, I guess I’ll put you out of your misery.”
“Thank you, my beloved.”
“You’re welcome, you pain in my ass.”
“And what a fine ass you have. I can’t wait to reclaim it again tonight.”
“And in two point five seconds you are back to being a cocky Asshat.”
“But I’m your cocky Asshat.”
“God help me…I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Jensen muttered before reaching up and dragging Jared down for a passionate kiss. The minister and their small family stood in the tastefully decorated spacious room and silently witnessed the growing love between the kissing couple.

Alexander Veselovsky sipped the vodka from his glass; his cold blue eyes stared into the blazing fireplace. After the unsuccessful assassination attempt on the young Ackles brat, he was furious. He had once again failed his family. He had fallen into an immediate rage, destroying the room and all its furnishings, cursing Padalecki’s name for hours. In the height of his fury he came to the realization that he no longer wished for Padalecki to suffer for years. He wanted to destroy the name completely, wipe it from existence. In order to achieve this goal, every single Padalecki had to die. It was the only way to restore the Veselovsky family honor.
A diabolic and meticulous plan had formed in the back of his mind. When news came of a Padalecki wedding, Alexander knew it was sign from his dead family. He would reveal himself at the wedding, and show all his enemies the true wrath and power of the Veselovksys. After draining the biting liquid, he placed the empty glass on the table next to him. A massive bomb also sat on the table, the timer blank, waiting for it to be set.
A malicious smile spread across his handsome face when his gaze caressed the metal detonator. He planned on giving the happy couple a wedding present they would never forget.
Soon.
