Judi Dench, Nine

Last weekend I hired Nine. I thought it was fantastic. Glittery and large and fun and wow what an interesting cast of women. I can see where it might have got negative reviews - they mention in the special features that they cast the film before they really wrote the characters, and thus every character is exactly who you would imagine her to be, ( Read more... )

You totally should. It's very fun. There are large M-ish overtones to Judi's character, which I found enjoyable (I love M). As a character, she has a very similar function in terms of taking no crap and telling it like it is, which is a pleasant antidite to the casual mysoginy of a story about a male film director and all the women who are framed as objects of inspiration to him.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I'm a big fan of the original show so I WILL see the movie when I get a chance to rent it.

I'm guessing Judy played the French woman and her number was Folles Begerres(sp?)?

She really does rock that corset. I want one. Maybe with Judy still in it.

She is. Sort of, anyway. That is her song, but she doesn't do any pretense of being French/a French accent. Instead, she says that Folles Begerres (IDK how to spell it either) was where she learned her costume making craft, and that launches her into it. :)

Thank you for the pics - now I know I have to see this movie after all....
And your comment on the last pic is so spot on! He reminds me a little of the very young Daniel Radcliffe in "David Copperfield" with Maggie as his aunt who gives him a bath - but Daniel manages to look much more appreciative *LOL*

You do. I could totally upload the clip of Judi's musical number, though, if you so desire :)

And I am so going to have to see David Copperfield now. I had no idea Daniel had done any acting before he was cast for Harry Potter.

*slaps the Minerva/Harry plotbunnies*

Oh yes, you have to see it (but beware it has been made into a movie several times) - half of the HP-cast is assembled *LOL*; Maggie and Daniel are both great in it, and I even heard that Maggie suggested Daniel to play Harry, as she has been so impressed by his work in David Copperfield...
