[The wind blows in the background; for now, Syaoran takes a breath, as if to speak. Then he pauses, silent for a few moments but for some belabored breathing. Then:]

...The forest.

Are they--? ...

[He falls silent. Footsteps begin, slow, heavy, a continuous rhythm of them.]

...They have to be.

I need to--

[He's just minding his own business, blowing off steam after that "talk" with Kamui, until...

He sees something.

Well, this is mightily familiar. He knows the story, and if he's right, this is the clone.

Nataku will be running to stop him now.]

[In a way, Syaoran acts a little like the soulless clone that Nataku likely recalls from Tokyo. He seems focused, driven -- though he looks much worse, like he's angry, distressed and hasn't slept in a few days.

Like then, he hardly makes note of Nataku's appearance, except to tighten his grip on the sword in his hand.]

[He fits an arrow into his crossbow. He only has a limited number on him, so he has to make every shot of his count, especially since the one before him has his own weapon.

He raises his bow and fires, ready to equip another.]

[A sound, a motion, something catches his eye and he moves; the arrow rips through one sleeve and continues to fly until it hits a wall nearby.

Silent, Syaoran swings his sword at the stranger -- he hasn't unsheathed it, he has at least that much will left.]

*Takato wanders down the street, lost in his thoughts. He is vaguely aware of wandering further from the high school than is probably safe.*

[He's exhausted and can't think straight at all; the sound of someone nearby puts him on guard. He spins, immediately in a defensive stance--

...A kid. Just a kid.]

*Takato stumbles back at the sudden movement, eyes wide in surprise. He stares at the older boy and slowly notices that he didn't look well at all.*

...Are you okay?

[Damn it...everyone keeps asking. Everyone. And no one will tell him why they're so worried-- he's fine. Just fine. So why won't they stop?

He doesn't know the boy asking, but it doesn't matter. He's staring. Frustration bubbles in Syaoran's blood like a strange beast -- he's normally so level-headed, so calm...but now he's getting angrier. Color flashes into his eyes: a faint hint of red, unnatural and glowing. It's gone within moments.]

Yes.

[She was worried. She was extremely worried.

Still, she couldn't help but venture outside, to that tree she made with her magic. She said it was for Syaoran. In a sense, it was, although Woody and flowery probably made it while being out of control without that in mind. She liked to think so.

She sits at the base of the tree, hoping that maybe Syaoran will come there. She couldn't help but fret over him-- he had been acting so strangely lately!-- and this was how she was going to show it, instead of potentially bothering him, which was the last thing she wanted to do.]

[Something brings him to that sakura tree, and he's not really sure he can explain what. The tree with the same name as her...

He wasn't expecting to find Sakura there. Either of them. He had just--

...Well. He didn't know.

He stops; he hesitates. He should walk away, but he can't.]

[Blink. It takes her a while to hear him approach her, but when he does, she quickly gets up and turns to him. What should she say? She didn't want to upset him...]

Syaoran-kun!

[Why does she have to be here?

He loosens his grip on the sword he holds, but doesn't release it -- he can't. Somehow, even when it's her in front of him, he can't.]

Sakura-san...

[Don't mind Lelouch too much. He's actually minding his own business. Truthfully he has his own problems to worry about, but seeing Syaoran actually makes him pause. His eyes narrow, immediately wary, but the kid really does look too much like Suzaku for him to merely dismiss the kid. Lulu stops and doesn't say anything right away, but does observe.]

[Syaoran has focused most of his energy on staying in control...he doesn't remember the moments where he loses it, but they alarm him because of their familiarity. What if it's not just an effect of the city?...

Footsteps. He turns instinctively and takes a swing with his sword, able to control himself enough not to draw it but too on-edge not to do anything at all.]

[And Lelouch does catch that. Right about now he really wishes he could spew the "I thought I told you to take care of yourself" line, but that doesn't seem appropriate. Instead he gives his best nervous smile and puts his hands up in the air.

Something is just off here.]

Now now... It is only me.

[He remains tense and on-guard for a moment even after Lelouch speaks, then lowers his arm.

This isn't right.

He sighs, putting a hand to his face.]

... I'm sorry.

[There hadn't been anything special about her stroll; just a casual walk around the city, maybe a stop here and there for supplies, but nothing else. Or at least, those were the original plans.

But nothing was random, and this, too, had been fated. It was almost as if she'd known in advance, that she would meet that child at the prime of his crisis.[

You're planning to go into the forest, I see. [That was all she chose to say. By now, it was quite obvious he had been infected with the same virus as the others - Malice, they called it - and so Yuuko had to study him for as long as she could, in hopes of finding a cure. He still had a role to fulfill, and it wouldn't do well to risk having him die a true death.

And making sure everything would go according to plan was her job to perform.]

[It was Yuuko.

He already felt anxiety welling up in his stomach. He was silent for a while, eyes flicking to the forest.]

... Yes.

[He couldn't say why. He didn't know why.]

[Somehow, she knew asking questions would be of no avail; Syaoran was close to losing himself, and trying to argue his motives would be useless. But still, something had to be done, and the only alternative she could think of was to keep him here, where he could be watched.

In that vein, she takes a step closer and studies his reaction to it. As long as he didn't back off, it would be fine.]

Whatever it is you wish to do over there, you will not find any feathers. In your current condition, it would be best to remain here.
