I don't see why you can't combine the two styles! They're both heavily stylized with thick linework and angles and... well.. the point being, it will be lovely. =)

I think you're right, in that it is doable, but the trick is going to be to keep it recognizable as this particular Seadog, and still make it look appropriate on a button blanket. I predict going through a *lot* of sketchpaper. ;P
