The road to Sarwin...

This is obviously not a post-industrial world. In fact, they shouldn't feel too out of place here. The randomly selected portal from the Nexus will set them down in a field not too far from a dirt road that bears the markings of wagon wheels. The surrounding area is lightly forested with deciduous trees in a colorful autumn display of foliage. The ( Read more... )

And what a strange little group they'll have. Two almost identical people, one much older than the other, and both with feathers. The older one has two more than the younger.

All four of these vaguely similar people have tails. The two featherless ones have blond hair, and aren't quite as identical looking as the silver-haired ones, but it's still impossible not to notice. The fancier-dressed, irritable looking one seems older, and the happier one seems much younger. It's more the way he's acting than anything, as they're the same height.

At least they're all behaving!

Mikoto has her doubts the people here are intelligent enough to set up anything, but... "If it was poisoned," she says back, just as quietly, "it could be dead already. Or dying. Why bother rescuing it?"

No more blood in the straw - unicorns are natural white magic users and heal from some injuries quickly. But... wait, there's another drop a foot or two away, in the direction away from town. And past that is a bush with a couple of broken branches. And just past that is a small bootprint on the edge of a bit of soft dirt... the trail leads off towards the hills.

Goblins, it would seem, are horrible at sneaking.

"Why bother rescuing it either way? They can find themselves a new pet... and guard it this time."

Kuja doesn't even think of that. He'll just follow the trail~. And who cares if the rest of the group isn't following?

The Waltzes are following!

"Because," Mikoto says, "we are more or less stuck with the rest of this group. At least we might get something out of it this time." They'd better have tea at that inn...

Rydia will try to make sure the group doesn't get separated. "Come on, Mikoto. We shouldn't split up on an unfamiliar world until we know more about it."

The trail leads through a spattering of forest for about a mile or two, and then to more rocky terrain and a cliff face. The trail seems to end right at the cliff.

"Hmm, yes~. But what's keeping us here, really?" He's quiet, but still loud enough to be heard. Purposely.

That makes Mikoto lash her tail briefly and give a glare up ahead to where the younger Kuja is. "I'm here for only one reason."

Blaze sighs at the rocks in front of them. It looks like a dead end... So much for this wild goose chase.

Mistral continues poking around the rocks.

Arashi looks at the trail, and then looks back at the cliff. Very suspicious, that. Especially the way that one stone fits in... like it's actually a door.

Kuja's stumped!

"That is none of your business," says Mikoto.

Arashi pokes the suspicious stone with a stick. The surface gives just a bit, and a little sand flakes off. It's nothing but a big piece of cloth with sand glued on, stretched over some kind of frame!

Which means it's probably flammable~

"It can't be good enough to suffer through this."

Itty bitty Kuja leans on it... and fwoosh.

Yes, fwoosh. :D
