They don't discourage easily.

I recommend polearms to keep them at more of a distance, but someone who doesn't have training in them probably shouldn't try one in these circumstances.

Yes, polearms are best. We also have staffs without blades in case anyone without spear training wants one.

Explosives? Yes, I think fire works really well on them. That should help a lot.
