I'd say move to California and get a teaching job out here, but apparently it's no better. A guy I know just went to the orientaion for the teaching program where he's getting certified to teach math. They handed out a letter from the local school districts to all the English and history majors to tell them to consider getting certified in a different field, since they are already saturated and have no jobs for them.

Sorry, this is not a very cheer-me-up comment. I'm not in a very cheery mood - Germany lost the World Cup semi-final to Italy today - IN THE LAST TWO MINUTES OF OVERTIME! So sad. :(

Here's something happy though - I'll be flying home three weeks from today!!! :)

AnnaBean!! I have to call you! I lost my cell phone charger, though, so I haven't been able to make any long-distance calls since yesterday, when the phone ran out of juice.

My sympathies on the World Cup! Sports sadness is legitimate and painful. Best wishes.

Less than three weeks until you get here!!! YAY!

to create a cover letter for a boring civil service job, since there are no social studies teaching jobs in the vicinity

Oh dude, no. Really?

Sadly, yes! I'm applying to Catholic schools, too, though I'm afraid they'll ask me something about church and I'll have to confess that I haven't been since, like, 2005.

More news as it develops!

The fact that Superman Returns supposedly didn't do too fabulously at the box office. Say it isn't so! I loved it! I am dying for a sequel!

Woe! WOE, I tell you. I adored the movie and thought it would reach the $100 million mark this weekend. Maybe people didn't want it on opening week because of all the hype. Maybe they're waiting until the hoopla dies down to see it. /says optimist!Minnie

I want a sequel too!

Yay, I'm not alone! We'll start a campaign for a sequel if the movie does end up stalling out - I am willing to Do My Part and see the movie multiple times, if necessary (am already e-mailing friends in the area and dropping hints about how I'm willing to see it again if they are).

And I'm with optimist!you - people are totally waiting for the hoopla to die down. So I hope!
