Yuletide Reveal!

Jan 03, 2011 12:55

Greetings, flisters! Happy 2011! I hope the year treats all of you fabulously. I am behind on everything due to a post-Christmas family vacation, so I still have many Yuletide stories to read and comment upon, but as always it's been a great experience. So many awesome stories!

Now that the reveal has happened, I can share that I wrote:

Awesome! I will have to check that out, for I love the Apartment.

And I didn't have any idea I could download AO3 stories to Kindle; I'll have to check that out.

Isn't The Apartment fantastic? I've spent the last month or so talking the movie up to everyone because every time I watch it, I feel compelled to spread the good word about how great it is.

Downloading fics to Kindle is pretty awesome! By doing that I was able to read some Yuletide while I was away, even though I couldn't comment right away and will have to catch up now that I'm home. The way I do it is by clicking on the Download link on the right side of the screen, and then selecting the MOBI version. Then I just download the file, connect my Kindle to my computer, and copy the downloaded file(s) into the documents folder on the Kindle. I'm typing this from memory, so if I've missed any steps, I apologize! It was pretty great having a bunch of fic with me while I'm away - and looking forwards, to be able to bring it with me to read on my lunch break at work!

Please tell me more about reading fic on the Kindle! I don't have one yet, so I don't really know about grabbing text from random places. How does fic look on the screen? Does it download as a text file or with html intact? Could you just go rampaging through LJ downloading fic if you wanted? Sorry for all the questions! I am thisclose to buying a Kindle, but I need it to support my fic reading habit. :P

I'm still learning about the Kindle and am not by nature super-tech-savvy, but I can definitely share what I know so far! For me, the easiest way for me to get fic onto my Kindle has been by using the Archive of Our Own, because each story has a download link on the right side of the page, which, when you click on it, gives you a variety of formats in which you can download the file (including MOBI, the file format for Kindles). After you download the file, you have to copy or move it from wherever it downloaded onto your hard drive into the documents file on your Kindle so that it will transfer over there. It's pretty awesome ( ... )

I'm glad you had another good yuletide experience (so did I!), and I hope 2011 treats you fabulously, too!
