Every time I meet a racist, I want to do something harmful to them. And then I thank whatever god there might be that I'm the one being discriminated against, and not the ignorant person doing the discriminating.

Is racism worth ending a friendship over? Because I just can't take it.

I have to say yes.
There is no excuse for intolerance and until someone stands up, this person will continue to get away with it.
People suck.

sigh. well then. how do you go about telling a very old friend that you can't be their friend anymore? that i can't even look her in the eye because i am so disgusted by her?

i really hope this isn't directed towards me, morgan, and emily and us wanting to play a black-person picnic game, because she didn't play being racist, just saying things like F-fro, r-rap. we know white people can have fro's and can rap, but fro's are much less likely to be found in the white society and rap usually isn't good if it doesn't come from a black person. so if it was, i apologize greatly and hope you realize that we honestly didn't mean anything.

Should you stop being friends with someone because they're homophobic? That makes me ill.

I can't give you any advice because I'm struggling with the 'same' thing.

ironically, we could be worrying about the same person. but that's just speculation.

i guess, being homophobic COULD be a religious issue. it could also be a personal issue- some people just aren't comfortable grinding with someone of the same gender. like, they could feel threatened by it.

but no one is being threatened by anyone of another race. not in the united states, and not in the same way as homophobia.

it's really the same thing. my brain is muddy.

The incredible homophobia of our school makes me want to puke. I don't think I've encountered someone who was completely racist.

Like, but if I were gay and you were not (we're speaking hypothetically of course because you are of course gay), I wouldn't come up to you and start grinding on you. Therefore, you should not feel threatened by my gayness.

as my sister quoteth a gay man today:

"anyone who says 'yes' when you claim that you never know until you try, was never straight in the first place."

well, in a way, you're intolerant of their intolerance as they're intolerant of others
if it bothers you that much maybe you can try and cut back, ignore it, or remove yourself from the conversations as nicely as possible
but I wouldn't make it into a large fight, or anything
although, I don't really see that happening, either

"well, in a way, you're intolerant of their intolerance as they're intolerant of others"

tru dat.

the way i see it, i have three options:
1) ignore it, which i can't and won't
2) try to change my friend's mind- unlikely
3) do my best to rid myself of her in a gentle way, although i'd rather make a scene and tell her how horrid and wrong she is

2, is no good
igitur, 3a [no scene], please
igitur is my new replacement for ergo, since everyone's attached themselves to it

Your distaste for the word "ergo" is offensive, as you put it off as a fad. I had been using "ergo" long before Mrs. Mitchell ever pranced into our lives, and even so, I only remember her ever using it once or twice.

You should be happy that people are expanding their vocabulary, not rolling your eyes at it.
