My dad is totally awesome. He was sick yesterday, and whenever he or I are sick, we pull out Star Wars or Lord of the Rings (Or I might pull out Disney). So yesterday, out came the Two Towers. I think The Two Towers really displays one of Tolkien's main themes, in that industrial warfare is evil, and destroys nature. And I adore the Ents. SO MUCH ( Read more... )

Ahahahahaha. Those moments are always great.

And remember at the end of RotK, where Frodo is narrating that Sam can no longer "be torn in two, you must be whole and together for many years to come" which is part of why Frodo leaves. I'm more of the theory that Sam totally knew, they just never said anything because Sam was so firmly on the Platonic Love Ship and Frodo...totally wasn't, but they both knew that and didn't begrudge it and just hung on. But then I favor bittersweet interpretations, so laaaa.

Speaking of LotR gay. I never turn down an opportunity to point out Legolas/Gimili, because I mean seriously. The only ship where it is, in fact, shippier in the actual books. Gimili is the only dwarf to EVER sail to the West! And he does it because Legolas asks! And post-war they spend all of their time knocking around Middle Earth together. Their gay is so canon.

In some ways I just appreciate dad can actually joke about characters being gay and be totally cool with it (I know too many guys who get all freaked out and uptight about it--like my brother).

That one works very well too. Somehow I just think that if Sam knew, then he would do anything he could to help Frodo, even if it meant something... like sex. He risked his life for him, what more could he do? But that's just how I see it. To each their own. Anyway though, it seems like it's more based on Frodo than Sam.

Hahaha, Legolas/Gimli is rather special. And yeah, him being the ONLY dwarf to go to the West? Yeah. There's just no way.

I've always had a bit of a weakness for Aragon/Boromir myself. A very, very bad weakness.

I want your dad.

PS- I approve of your medicine.

:D

Where do you want to meet for lunch? Blue Fin? Or somewhere else? Are we meeting other people, or just you and me?

Sorry, my awesome dad is mine.

Blue Fin Sushi sounds good and I thought it was just going to be you and me. I had no plans on bringing anyone else, unless you really do. Were we thinking Monday or Tuesday?

I wasn't planning on other people either. Just being thorough.

I was thinking Tuesday, if that agrees with your schedule.

Alright, let's say Tue at Blue Fin, unless I get up there on Sat. and something huge comes up that needs to be done on Tue, which I doubt.
