My romance horoscope for 2004 says I'm gonna find luuuhhv this year and I'll likely be hitched within the next two years. Then my mother can win her bet. Also this is the Year of the Monkey and according to the Chinese version of astrology, I'm a monkey. Being the Year of the Monkey, this is the year that monkeys will fall in love or fall in ( Read more... )

Poor gorilla. :( Any idea why he went on a rampage?

(Maybe he took this "Year of the Monkey" thing a little too seriously...)

The zoo attendants are flummoxed. The gorilla was a frisky thirteen year old and supposed to be well adjusted. It would be kinda neat to say I was attacked by a gorilla. Two women and a child were sent to hospital. The three year old is in critical condition.

You never know when it'll happen...its best to be prepared. That why - I'm sure you've noticed whenever you're around me - I always have a banana in my pocket. ;)

How does a gorilla break out of a zoo? That's like a plot from Looney Tunes!!!

They think Jabari climbed the wall of the Wild African Safari exhibit. And a witness thinks he broke down the door. Mass pandemonium, I believe.

The gorilla... cgronlund March 19 2004, 20:22:43 UTC
Apparently some teenagers were teasing the gorilla shortly before it went...ape. At least according to the Dallas Morning News.

Yeah, it's very unfortunate they killed the gorilla (I don't blame the cop, either...I think most of us would have shot). Also unfortunate it hurt people who weren't taunting the gorilla. I'm not a fan of zoos...especially the Dallas Zoo, which has had a lot of problems in recent years and short-staffed. I went once, years ago, and remember seeing lemurs in a bare cage with a cement floor and really nothing else. They looked a little nuts and it was just sad.

I know there are a zoos that have done things to preserve endangered animals, etc., but for the most part, that's not the case. From the National Zoo, to local zoos, there are staffing issues and sick/dead animals as the result.

I'll shut up now :)

No, I happen to agree with you. I love animals and going to the zoo always seems to be such a treat but most of the time, once I get there, it's just a bit depressing. I was fond of the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans, but it's the bird exhibit that impressed me most. And the reptiles. In New York at Central Park, I really liked the penquins. But the mammals always seem so down.

Anyway, it's a shame about the people who were attacked. I hope those teenagers feel as if they've learned something about themselves.
