the depth of green growth is something that astounded me about NZ. It isn't ever very green in Aus once you get out to the countryside - red, brown, yellow and dust but not fresh deep green. Everything grows so well you can imagine you can watch it happen.
Those little penguin homes sounds so lovely and cute. This whole trip as you've posted it sounds magical! I'd love to give it a try someday when my body is up for it :) I hope it's still a possibility when the time comes. I never would have expected little cottages and such of the caliber you've found.
