Hermione did no such thing. Years of caution and managing to stay alive meant she wasn't going to just blithely drink any little potion bottle that arrived on her doorstep. Most especially one that turned up in a plain-brown-paper-wrapped box at her Muggle home, delivered by the local postman.
She inspected the packing once more for clues, but the return address (a post office box in Manchester) left her puzzled. The only thing she was sure of was that it was a potion of extreme value. The bottle was beautifully carved out of a piece of solid alabaster, and the lid was encased in a fine tracery of gold wire netted around the end like lace around a wizard's pointy hat. The whole thing could be completely hidden in her palm, and so small a bottle tended to indicate strong, very rare solutions.
Hermione's parents were away, so she left the bottle on the table, and cleared away the packaging for fear it might catch fire if things went wrong. Disappearing upstairs, she returned with a battered book ("Advanced Curse
