GIMP is sucky.

I found some icon tutorials at icon_tutorial and they're SO GOOD, and the results look great (in the icon-maker's post), but my layers are being pissy bitches.

For a lot of them you have to duplicate/ create new layers, which is fine, and you have to use the bucket fill tool to get a certain colouring (but you lower the opacity, and change the ( Read more... )

mmm,i think you need to use a color fill layer and set that layer on a blending mode and then adjust the opacity.

for example:

layers>new fill layer>solid color
fill with #ffddc1 and set to color burn 35% opacity

i wouldn't use the bucket tool unless the instruction tells you to do so,like this:

create a new layer, use the bucket tool and fill it with #ffddc1 then set to color burn 35% opacity

In that is the case and you still don't like the result then try with a color fill layer and see if you have a better result.

Damn i hope this ain't confusing XD

I don't actually have 'new fill layer' - It just gives me new layer or new visible layer, and you choose the fill type, which can be foreground colour, background colour, white, or transparency.

BUT IT HAS STARTED TO WORK, HOLY FLAIL!! I'm really excited, it looks really pretty. I found a really nice tutorial I'm going to use, and at some point I'll use your one that's posted at icon_tutorial.

thank you thank you thank you!! :)

and also, a lot of tutorials say you should duplicate a layer then change it to softlight 100% or something like that. Where do I find the menu/palette where I can do that? :) thaaanks.

It's actually starting to behave now. :) It's OK, gimp. It's not fab, but it's fairly good.

It is MILLIONS times better than photobucket, which is a relief.

YOUR ICONNN SO PRETTYYYYYY.
