Congrats on 8 years! No matter what your dad thinks, that's a long time to be in one place, by today's standards. And it IS today, after all.

My parents and aunts and uncles all had multiple decades at the same job and always encouraged us to stay at a job as long as possible because it was the best way to go. I think the younger folks of today who change jobs every few years for better opportunities have the right idea. I just hit 15 years at my company though.
