Summary : Johnny organized an exchange gift activity for the Idols (cross-group). Ryo doesn't want to participate. So that was his thought until a certain Kamenashi asked him to.

Ryo doesn’t really like Christmas. Not to say that he hates it, it just the overly pretense cheerful crowds gets on his nerve. Besides, what so jolly about a fat guy with white beard, in red old suit singing ho, ho, ho. So when it was announced in J-web that all idols will have a give exchange activity cross-group for the upcoming Christmas, Ryo didn’t hold his in tongue expressing his disinterest on the matter. Then again, none of the NEWS members expected him too.
“I’m not fucking participating in it?” he announced a bit too harshly as he packed his stuff. “Do you know how troublesome it is to go through the human mob in any shopping complex this time of the year?”
Pi who was taking his sweet time lazing around in the dressing room replied “It’s Johnny-san’s order. You know how the old man loves Christmas.”
“He can play Santa all he wants but I won’t be buying any gift for anyone” Ryo hissed and darted out of the room.
As he dragged his feet and his not-so-great mood to the nearest elevator, he saw a familiar figure chatting happily with a junior. Ryo was never that friendly to begin with, but he does have a soft spot for that particular person who happened to notice that he was looking. Ryo tilted his head a bit to acknowledge his presence.
The other replied with a genuine smile that Ryo can’t believe still exist in any JE idols after so many years faking on stage. Suavely, the guy excused himself from the other, who looks more like a fanboy than acquaintances.
“So, have you draw the lot?” he asked smoothly as if they have talking to each other daily.
“Don’t get you” Ryo tried his best to look disinterest even though he does like the view. Heck, he’s supposed to be the cool dark prince for god sake. But for his defense, the guy next to him was looking dashing with his crisp white shirt, clean-cut jeans and refreshing smell to match it.
The guy seems persistence with the cheeky attitude and Ryo making an exception for him. Only because they share a long history together, he reminded himself. “The gift exchange for Christmas of course” the guy cheerfully added.
“Not interested” he answered curtly as the elevator door opens. He stepped in and looked at the guy questioningly.
The slender guy stalled for few seconds before joining Ryo in the confine space. “Why not?” intrigue to continue the conversation.
Ryo sighed before replying “Coz I hate Christmas.”
“Of course you don’t. Nobody hate Christmas” he seems defiant with the answer.
“I hate people getting all friendly just because it’s Christmas. I hate overly decorated shopping complex that have too many people flocking in. And the most of all I hate the fact that we can’t even get the day off just so we could fake and display our pearly white teeth just to please the rest” he let all out in one breath.
He did expect the guy to be affected by his outburst. But he was not too surprised seeing the exact same colorful expression from the guy. Very well, he is the great Kamenashi Kazuya after all. “Is that this is all about? You are piss coz you have to work on Christmas day? I never know you are this sappy.”
“I’m not” he barked back with all his might and cursed the elevator that suddenly moves so slowly.
Then out of the corner of his eyes he saw the all mighty confident Kamenashi change into a different character fidgeting in his spot playing with the paper he’s holding. “Ne Ryo, would you like to go out for a drink after the JE Christmas Party.”
Ryo eyed the guy suspiciously “Which part of I’m not interested in the party that you don’t understand?”
“Ohh” Kame replied with a soft voice. “So you are not going then?”
Ryo wanted to answer a firm NO, but somehow his guardian angel stops him. No, he doesn’t have any flying fairy watching him, but if he does they’ll definitely asked him to bite his tongue in this occasion. And thankful he did. “I might drop by. We’ll see.”
The undertone voice managed to bring the light back to the other as he beamed excitedly in his corner. Ryo was please with himself for the good deed.
As they reached the ground floor, Ryo quickly stepped out of it as if his life depends on it. But to his surprise his partner sharing the confine space stay still and smile brightly. “See you at the party” he announced before the door close again leaving the dumbfounded Ryo all by himself. He really doesn’t like it when he can’t read others.

It was the rehearsal for the Christmas concert where most of the Johnny performers will gather and act all perky entertaining the audience. Ryo wish he’s anywhere else but there. Unfortunately, his contract with JE was still valid for the year. Therefore so he was dragged and forced to forge a smile whether he likes it or not.
“Arigatou” the director announced indicating NEWS rehearsal done and the next group on cue to be ready. As the boys walks off the stage, Ryo saw KAT-TUN was getting ready. He saw the overwork Kamenashi giggling his way with the plain looking Maru. He hated the sound of it.
As Pi makes his way to the stadium empty chair saying he wants to watch KAT-TUN rehearsal, Ryo silently thank the guy for saving him the embarrassment of saying the exact same thing. He was also grateful that his other group members don’t have the stamina to stay away from the dressing room.
“Ne Ryo, have you bought the gift yet?” Pi asked as soon as Ryo placed his butt on the cold seat.
“What gift?” he tried his best not to show any reaction looking at the slender Kame moves to the upbeat songs that he swears was so irritating at first but kinda stop being so after few time listening to it.
“The gift exchange of course. I got Kame’s name and I know what I’m going to get for him” Pi replied proudly.
Ryo bit his lower lips at the revelation “You got Kame?”
The other guy nodded happily “I saw this cool gadget I know he’s going to love me for it.”
“Eh, I never knew you like him that way” Ryo grunted as he continue to stare at the group who was asked again to repeat the dance as the wannabe rapper swallowed his lyric.
Ryo noticed Pi shook his head “Not like that you silly. It as simple as feeling great, when the person like the gift you chose.”
“Ne Pi, I’m getting Kame’s name” Ryo announced as he stood up.
“What do you mean?” Pi looked up at the stern looking Ryo.
“The gift exchange. I’ll participate only if you let me get Kame his gift instead” Ryo set the condition.
Pi shook his head as expected by Ryo “Why should I. Besides, I already figure out what to give him.”
“If that’s the case, I’ll have to threaten you with the cuddly pic of you with Jin I took the last time we went Karaoke” the other smirk devilishly.
“You bastard” Pi uttered softly. “Fine you can have it. So who did you get?”
Ryo already make his moves “Don’t know. I haven’t draw the lot.”

“Why are we here” Jin asked annoyingly. “I thought you hate Christmas shopping.”
“I do, but I haven’t get the gift exchange thingy for tomorrow” he replied dodging old ladies making their way to the discount counter.
“I thought you are not participating?” he asked curiously knowing his best friend rarely change his mind.
Ryo ignored the guy as he makes his way to the electronic shop. “What should I get him.”
“Who is he?” his shopping partner continued asking annoying questions which he decided not to answer.
They took their own sweet time lurking around but after half an hour with no result, Ryo ready to give up “Who did you get?”
“Matsujun” Jin replied with a grimaced. Everyone knows about their famous love-hate relationship of course.
“What did you get him then?” Ryo asked curiously as they make their way to parking.
“A Christmas card with a cash voucher” Jin grinned proudly knowing his sempai will definitely be piss with it.
“Lame” Ryo replied as he took out his car keys.
“I know” Jin answered smugly. “But still better than your non-existence gift. Ne Ryo, maybe you can give a date with yourself as the gift” Jin guffaw at his own joke.

The Christmas show was great as always. Trust Johnny to splurge on concerts and such. After the show ends all of them retreat to the stadium conference hall where the crew had it all nicely decorated with fluff stuff to suit the theme.
As tradition of the season, turkey was on the menu, as well as lots of finger foods and colorful cocktails to keep the crowd high. Everyone seems to have fun except the dark prince who was sitting at a corner with his gaze fixed on the fashionably drab guy chatting with everyone except him. He always knows that Kame was a promiscuous guy, but he never expected to be excluded from his long list.
“So what did you get for Kame-chan” Pi was the only one brave enough to step in the mine-field.
“Nothing” he answered which sounded more like a grunt before he took a sip of the red color bitter liquid.
“Eh? Nothing? I thought you already have something in mine when you want to exchange it with me” the guy whined with his trademark pout.
Ryo took another sip of his drinks indicating he doesn’t want to talk about it.
Then the non-coherent Aiba and Sho who have been assigned as the MC for the night announced that it was time for the gift exchange “Time to unwrap the gift.”
Pi left Ryo all by himself at the corner, looking for his target. Ryo decide that was the right time to make his exit but to his surprise, the promiscuous Kamenashi decided to grace his presence “Merry Christmas, Nishikido Ryo” he announced cheerfully as he handed a nicely wrapped small size box.
“For me?” Ryo hated that the guy managed to ambush his defense once again.
Kame nodded “I got you name.”
Ryo took the gift carefully and cautiously unwrap it. It was a leather glove with a handwritten note ‘To keep you warm’. Of course with smiley face emoji not to be missed.
“Thanks” Ryo replied softly trying to keep his composure. “I got your name.”
“Really? What a coincidence” Kame said excitedly.
“But I didn’t get you anything” Ryo replied truthfully and saw Kame’s cheerful face falter. For the first time in his whole life he hated himself. Then Jin unruly suggestion came up “Except a date with me.”
As he blurted it out, Ryo felt the clock stop ticking and all the rowdy sounds made by the crowd vanished. Then to his utter amazement, Kame leaned and gave him a peck on his cheek “It’s the Christmas gift I always wanted.”
Ryo swear he heard Santa bells somewhere in the air as he pulled Kame out of the crowded hall saying they are supposed to go out for the drink Kame mentioned few days ago. They just might get lucky end up in either one apartment instead since it expected to be full house in most places tonight. But of course Ryo not complaining, as he started to love Christmas now.
