You could easily get ventilation and an escape route with a wooden window, and before you say anything, that'd be no weirder than a wooden door. You open it when you want ventilation, a screen window on the other side to keep out the bugs.
As to "the view," what a lame reason. Having a window in your bedroom is essentially no different than having a window in your bathroom. In both cases it's giving strange people and the evil yellow daystar the ability to invade your private space. If you want to look outside, use a window elsewhere in the house, or open a wooden window in the bedroom.
Oh also, windows are a gaping security hole. Break the glass and let yourself right in, or hell, just jimmy the things a little and open them from the outside. My last apartment had such crappy windows that a toddler could have gotten them open from the outside to break in, but even the best windows might as well be a sign reading "Come on in, make yourself at home!"
Yeah, I HAVE to have natural light in a room or I feel trapped. Having been in a house fire AND having 2 home invasions in my life, the bedroom window saved my life!! If someone comes in my window (and once someone tried) I run out the bedroom door. But if someone comes in the door... without the window- ACK! Even if just to open and scream for help

And maybe you want to look at the moon and stars while lying in bed.
