I wound up watching ABC news (KATU) because channel 8 was showing some sports stuff.
Much to my surprise they *didn't* blame it on the Asperger's.
But I wasn't really impressed with the ways they were interpreting his video blogs. The immediately decided that when he said something about "needing to escape" (which in the context they quoted sounded to *me* like typical teen and aspie "I need top get some time to myself" they were giving it all sorts of heavy meaning. *sigh*
Oh yeah, the family is very anti-gun and has no idea where he got the pistol...
Despite all that, which is correct, there's also thought comming to my mind: I guess a mayor problem in this is also how regular schools in America finance themselves. Don't know too much about it, but, let's say it's also financed a lot by local parents. Parents who donate a lot also like to abuse this circumstance when it comes down that their child did mischief. They use their donations as a pressure tool on school administration to not punish their kids as rules of the school and human moral would require it. "To not screw up his future career" or as anything else would sound out of the parents' mouths then. I guess this is a huge problem also in issues like the topic of this post.
Well so far, there doesn't seem to be much, if any, discussion of his being an aspie, in the media. Mostly they're focusing on other things, which is surprising.
