The people who made Babylon 5 always did an excellent job on the effects. Even when you could tell it was CGI, it didn't matter, because it was good enough that the excellent story made us ignore the effects. I knew that character was played by the same guy as played the crazy soul hunter. He, too, has a distinctive voice.
Y' know - you're the only one I know who is familiar enough with the series to discuss this - at the very climax of things, reverse-engineered Shadow technology is finally applied to Earth Force ships, giving them that black shifting-iridescent surface and tentacles, which looks very weird.
Yup yup. And Ivanova would have died destroying them if not for Marcus.

Did I ever tell you? In the Traipah universe, the alien species known as the Vorsht were inspired by the Shadows a little, in appearance, except that the Vorsht are peaceful. Well... now. They used to be warmongering, but they changed. And though insectoid, and loosely inspired by the Shadows, they're far less creepy looking.
Also, the Vorsht ships are a sort of combo of the Vorlon ships and the Shadow vessels. But different. For one thing, though Vorsht ships are alive, they also have crystalanium (adamantium) hulls. The Vorsht ships are black, with Vorlon-like tentacles in the front and shorter tentacles in the back. (The front tentacles are weapons, the back are sublight engines.)
