Scout Update

So, a quick update about Scout.

I went to the shelter on Saturday to talk Scout out on a walk and as a big surprise, he was released to me.  So, I spend the past few days with him all day, and we've bonded quite well.  We had a couple of rough spots we had to work through together, but he's my best (and silly) bud now.

He's got a bit of an attachment ( Read more... )

Dwaaaaaaaa that's awesome how he acts. At least he acts like you for the most part.

I'm sure once he get fully use to the new house he will figure out that he can use the backyard as a toilet area. If you also don't walk him in the mornings or evenings but stay outside with him and he should figure out that he can use the back yard. It could be an old habit that his previous owners had him do. But once he does figure it out you can take him out for walks at those times and that's not saying that you cant walk him.

As for the separation anxiety. What does he do when you leave for work in the morning? Does he whine, struggle if you put him in his kennel?

If you want to you could call us and we can help out with any questions that you may have. Jesse's mom trains dogs where she works. Jesse has a lot more info that would be easier to communicate through talking with you than on here.

Well, I actually have quite a bit of experience with dogs as well as I grew up around them my whole life and Scout's my second dog (the ex gave my first dog during the separation).

The backyard issue isn't a big deal right now, he'll pee out there on occasion, but he's yet to do #2. But, we take enough walks so it's not a big deal.

As for the anxiety, as soon as I leave the house he starts to whine but quiets down pretty quickly and he follows me from room-to-room. They are mild signs right now, but I'm going to take some quick action to try to help. I'm going to throw some dirty laundry into his bedroom as the scent should help a lot and he seems quick comfortable when we go into the laundry room.

But, I'll probably give you guys a call if we need anything. Right now, we are still in an adjustment phase and he's got some medical problems we need to get past before I start worrying about training.

Oh right I totally forgot you had mentioned that.

Well at least he does go pee somewhat out there. It could be that hes just testing before he actually goes #2.

Yeah the cloths should work for that.

Hey no matter the time just give us a call for anything. I understand the medical stuff and the adjustment part tho. So have fun getting to know each other better.
