The only circus thing I've seen is Carnivale (TV series), which is absolutely gorgeous, but set in the dustbowl era, so I don't know how useful it will be.

I've heard of that... We'll have to check it out.
Thank you

Don't know how much help any of these might be (as many I have not seen myself, am only familiar with them because of the actors involved)

Carny

and I found this list (many of which are old, but some seem to be what you are looking for)

Hope that helps some!(Sorry for the coding mistakes!)

At first I thought 'the only one's I rememeber are tv shows' I remember an episode of Bones and I think one from Highlander too. But then after a few moments I remember hearing about a movie that was about circus clowns (I think anyway) that had Dom DeLousie(?) in it but it would have to be older because I think Peter was in it as a kid. I know it's not much but I hope this helps.

Edit to add: There was an episode of Torchwood also, but I think that was more about sideshows.

There's the classic "The greatest show on earth" -- The dramatic lives of trapeze artists, a clown, and an elephant trainer against a background of circus spectacle. (from IMDB)

A more recent movie would be "Water for Elephants"

Faintly cheezy but actually a fun movie is Clint Eastwood's "Bronco Billy"

Someone's IMDB list on circuses: http://www.imdb.com/list/N1KGR6mYvcQ/

Another list - "the 26 circus movies I know" - http://www.imdb.com/list/l6hweereido/

That should get you started!

This isn't related to circuses, but has a crapton of behind the scenes for tight rope walking--it's a free film at Amazon (or is for Prime members, anyway) called Man on Wire. It's a true documentary about a French tight rope walker who sneaked into the Twin Towers while they were under construction in 1974, anchored a wire between them, and spent about an hour out on the wire...while cops waited for him on the roofs. I have no idea why I watched it, but it was oddly fascinating.
