Summary: I’ll research it; I’ll send a message to Zelenka telling him to research it. I want you to stop worrying about this John. I’ll make sure nothing happens. I swear to you, I am not talking about an uninhabited solar system here; I’m talking about my husband, our family.
Thanksgiving was good; they invited all the same people. Nathan had a fantastic time crawling after Maddie and Torren. Jeanie told them she was pregnant, “about three months,” she said. They had invited Ronon, but he said he had other plans, John and Rodney thought they must have something to do with the mystery woman no one had met yet. Teyla said she and Kanaan were going to visit with him tomorrow. The conversation was good, the company was better, and all the while John had that other baby thing on his mind. He still had more questions than he liked, there were too many unknown variables for him to be comfortable. Rodney hadn’t brought it up again, but John knew he was thinking about it too.
John’s biggest question was: What kind of device could possibly make a man get pregnant? What would it do to his body to make it possible? Women’s bodies were made to carry children, a man’s wasn’t. And the birth would obviously have to be cesarean section, which was scary enough by itself.
When John looked at Nathan, watched him crawl to Rodney or himself, watched him sleep, watched him reaching toward him with the look of complete unadulterated love and trust he thought a scar at the bottom of his stomach would be worth it, but the rest of the time, he was really uncertain.
What would happen to him? His job? Would they still let him go off world or would they stick him behind a desk somewhere? And what if his body couldn’t handle being pregnant, or what if the device malfunctioned or something? If John died, Rodney and Nathan would be left alone. And what if someone on the outside got wind of a pregnant man? John could be whisked away and stuck in a glass box to be studied, and when the baby was born it would be studied. John tried weighing the pros and cons, but that was impossible when there was so much he didn’t know.
Christmas came and went; Nathan got way more toys than an eight month old baby had any reason to get. Their friends mailed them gifts again this year. Sam came over on Christmas morning to give Nathan her gift in person. It was one of those push walkers that turned into a little bike when baby had outgrown the walker part. The baby swing went into the spare bedroom along with the bassinette and the bouncy seat, Rodney insisted they not get rid of things they may need again someday.
John still hadn’t made his decision.
On New Years, they let Sam take Nathan for the night so they could celebrate. They just stayed home, watched a few movies and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and drank beer. John’s mind was heavy and Rodney could feel it. They hadn’t had sex in awhile and their night alone was no exception. Rodney was beginning to think telling John about the device was a bad idea; it seemed to be straining their relationship. They still talked and kissed and hugged and all the other things they had done since they got together almost eight years earlier, but John was distant. When John used to curl up against Rodney’s back when they went to bed, he now turned the other way. He didn’t stop Rodney from pulling him close and nestling his nose into John’s hair, but it wasn’t the same.
“John,” Rodney said one night, “I’ll do it if you’re that uncomfortable about it.”
“That has nothing to do with it Rodney,” John replied and sat up. He left the room and went downstairs.
“What is it then?” Rodney asked, following him to the kitchen where John grabbed a beer out of the refrigerator.
“We don’t know anything about that thing. What if something goes wrong?”
“Nothing will go wrong.”
“You can’t say that Rodney.”
“I can.”
“No, you said that about Arcturus and look what happened there.”
“No one’s ever going to get over that are they? ‘Ooh Rodney blew up three quarters of a solar system let’s shove that in his face every time he gets a little big in his britches’. I admit that I may have been a little over zealous with that project, but this is different.”
“How?”
“I’m talking about our future. Now if this isn’t something you want to do then just tell me and we’ll adopt. But I’m tired of you moving away from me. If having our own baby is going to drive a wedge between us then forget it. We have Nathan and I can be satisfied with just him and you. But we need you to make us a family John.”
John pressed his lips together and swallowed audibly. “I’m not going anywhere Rodney.”
“Not physically, but emotionally you haven’t been here for a couple of months.”
“Yes I have.”
“Nathan took a step last week. Just one, but he did it.”
John’s mouth opened just slightly and his eyes welled with tears. “He did?”
“Yes.”
“Where? When? Where was I?”
“Last Tuesday, in the living room, he was pulled up on the coffee table, you were on the couch. He was reaching for you John, you didn’t reach back and he took a step and fell. I couldn’t get to him in time to catch him.”
John looked down at the floor. “That was when I… I picked him up when he started crying.”
“Yeah.”
John pulled in a deep breath and sat on the floor; he leaned against the refrigerator, pulled his knees up and covered his face with his hands. “Oh my god,” he sighed.
Rodney sat beside him and pulled him into his arms. “It’s okay, I wasn’t counting that as his first step anyway, it was more of an accident.”
“That doesn’t matter Rodney, he did it and I was right there and I didn’t see it. He did it because he wanted me and… I wasn’t even paying attention to him.”
“It’s not your fault John, I shouldn’t have told you about the device or at least I should have told you in a different way. If you don’t want to do it-”
“No, it’s not that I don’t want to.” He sighed, “there is just so much we don’t know about it. I don’t want to blindly jump into something that could have a negative effect on my body, or the baby that gets created. I don’t want to leave you and Nathan here alone.”
Rodney pulled John’s feet until his legs straightened out, then he straddled John’s lap and took his head in both hands.
“I’ll research it; I’ll send a message to Zelenka telling him to research it. I want you to stop worrying about this John. I’ll make sure nothing happens. I swear to you, I am not talking about an uninhabited solar system here; I’m talking about my husband, our family. John I promise-”
John cut him off by pulling him into a fierce kiss. He moaned into Rodney’s mouth and held him tight against him as if he’d blink out of existence if he let Rodney go.
They stood up and John grabbed the tub of Vaseline Rodney kept in the cabinet. He devoured Rodney’s mouth as he pushed his boxers down and used the Vaseline to prepare him. He slicked his cock with the Vaseline, bent Rodney over the center island and pressed into him as if his life depended on it. Once completely inside he just held there, feeling the pressure of Rodney all around him, bent over with the side of his face resting on the back of Rodney’s shoulder. Eventually, he started pumping, slow short strokes in and out of Rodney’s body. He ran his hands over Rodney’s back and sides, down his arms and around to his chest.
Rodney knew what was happening, John had done this before. The first time was after that big storm, then again after he’d been turned into a bug, and of course after Rodney got that alien parasite that was killing his brain out of his head. It was his way of making peace with the situation, or apologizing to himself for his behavior; Rodney let it happen and enjoyed the ride.
Rodney grunted when John started thrusting faster.
John ran his hands over Rodney’s ass and then around to his erection, he took it into his already slicked hand and started pumping in time with his hips. Rodney was moaning loudly now and the sound was driving John closer and closer to orgasm.
He ran his thumb over the head of Rodney’s dick and felt it jerk with each pass. A moment later he felt the warmth of Rodney’s come spilling over his hand and Rodney’s ass tightened around him.
John grunted and thrust a few more times before he came as well.
He rested his head back on Rodney’s shoulder. “I’m sorry Rodney.” He whispered.
“It’s okay John. I forgive you and so does Nathan.”
John pulled out and turned Rodney toward him. He ran his finger over the crease the edge of the counter had made in Rodney’s stomach, and then he pulled Rodney into his arms. He kissed him deeply and for a long time. When he finally did break the kiss he pulled back just enough to look into Rodney’s eyes.
“I want to have your baby Rodney. I just need to be absolutely positive that it’s perfectly 100% safe.”
“Then I’ll make sure it is.”
John smiled and pulled his and Rodney’s boxers back up, he washed his hands then cleaned up the mess they’d made on the side of the island.
They went upstairs and got in bed, both too exhausted to worry with showers tonight.
Rodney sighed happily when John curled up against his back and started running his fingers lightly over his stomach.
“I love you John,” Rodney whispered.
“Love you too,” John whispered back.
