Thunder rumbled heavily overhead and lightning crashed not far from Grandview Boulevard. John and Rodney lay snuggled together on their overstuffed mattress, surround by the thick comforter. The rain was pecking rhythmically on the windowpanes.

From their bed, John could see the puffy grey clouds and knew the storm wasn’t going to be passing soon. He pulled Rodney closer to him and kissed the top of his head.

Rodney put his hand on John’s stomach and open and closed his hand, his finger tips running light paths back and forth over John’s skin.

“Do you miss it?” Rodney asked.

“Hmm?” John asked, Rodney’s voice pulled John out of the trance his rubbing fingers had put him in.

“Atlantis, do you miss it?”

“Well yeah,” John replied, “we spent a lot of years there. You and I had some pretty good times there.” John smiled as memories flooded his mind.

“Do you regret leaving?”

John looked at Rodney, confused as to what brought on this line of questioning. “No,” he said after a moment, “why?”

“Well, compared to life in the Pegasus galaxy, this is boring. I mean there’s no Wraith, no Goa’uld, no Ori. You go off world with your new team, but it’s just to explore, you’re not an explorer John, you’re a soldier. You’ve got to hate this.”

“Rodney,” John said softly and turned toward Rodney, “I chose to leave. You and I decided that we wanted more than Pegasus could offer us. Our lives were threatened day in and day out, both of us came close to dying on several occasions. We both actually did die at least once; I couldn’t stand to lose you Rodney. Not to mention, there really weren’t any places to go to just get away.”

“But now that the Wraith problem is coming under control, it wouldn’t be as dangerous-“

“Rodney, do you want to go back?” John asked seriously.

“No! I just… I don’t want you to be unhappy just to be with me.”

John rolled even closer to Rodney; he was half on top of him. John remembered that Rodney started thinking in strange ways when storms were bad. It was a side effect to that big storm their first year in Atlantis. He took Rodney’s head in his hands and looked into his eyes. “Rodney, I can’t be unhappy with you. You make me happy; it doesn’t matter where we are. If you want to go back to Atlantis we will, but I left because this is what I want. I want to lie in a ridiculously poofy bed and watch TV with the storm raging outside. I want to have mind blowing blow jobs on the couch, I want to go grocery shopping with you, I want to cook dinner for you in the kitchen of our own home. I want to build things that that will make you happy, like the hallway from the kitchen to the garage that drove me insane for an entire week. I want to wake up with you and go to bed with you and have fantastic sex with you on this seven foot tall bed, I want to not worry that one of us will be dead tomorrow. I want to have kids and watch them grow up and send them to school and have nothing more than regular parent worries. Pegasus can’t give us that Rodney.”

John smiled and ran his thumb over Rodney’s crooked mouth and kissed him.

Rodney smiled when the kiss broke. He pulled John even closer to him by cupping his ass. “This bed isn’t seven feet tall,” he said.

“Rodney, I have to hop to get my butt on the bed, it’s a tall bed.”

“Tall, but not seven feet tall.”

John smiled and shook his head. “Of all the stuff I said you chose that to question?”

“Well I don’t-”

Thunder cracked and lightning crashed and the room went dark.

“Shit,” Rodney said and started to get up.

“Uh uh,” John said and pulled him back down.

“John, I have to-”

“It’ll wait Rodney; it’ll probably come back on by itself.” He pushed Rodney onto his back and got on top of him. He ground his hips forward pressing his sudden erection onto Rodney’s hip.

“You know, you’re right,” Rodney said, “it’ll be fine for awhile.”
