Prayer for Lux Aeterna: Possible Trigger Warning!

Heading north on the 210, Susannah drives along, winding through the hills near Sunland, a Los Angeles suburb. There are no lights to line the road, and all she can see beyond the asphalt is an outline of the San Gabriel Mountains to the right, and the Verdugo Mountains to her left.

I had no idea which direction this was going at any time, and that was pretty awesome. I want to know what those blue beings are about though. They seem sinister, but they seem to be doing nice things.

First, thank you for your kind comments!

When I first began writing, I thought they might be aliens. So often, it seems that aliens have superior technology in stories. It seemed that with their ability to bend time or show it to be non linear, and abduct forgotten souls.

Then, I wondered if maybe they're supposed to be angels or something of a more supernatural variety. They mention prayers and LA's nickname is "City of Angels," so it's a possibility.

In the end, I decided to leave it open to the interpretation of the reader. I'm curious as to what you think, and what others who read think of these theories and ideas.

I wasn't certain what was coming but was certain I was in good hands throughout this story. I love that moment of catching sight of a city lit up at night out of the darkness, it's always astonishing. I'm listening to the song you linked and I can see why you put these ideas together.

The was a great story. It was very interesting that you chose to leave the exact nature of the beings up to the reader. I listened to the music, and it was wonderful. This was a fascinating way to work it into your entry.

I enjoyed how you began to twist the story away from a recognizable reality and then gave that twist plausible reason. I also really dug that you wrote a piece based on the creation of the Lux Aeterna!!!

I do wonder what the humans were "borrowed" for, and whether the Alexa who was there at the end was the same as the one who was not quite born when they freeway incident occurred. Hopefully it was brief, maybe only just a minor rerouting of time...
