They were called the Jangl. When they came to Earth, people everywhere rejoiced. The chance to make first contact with beings from a different world was a dream come true to nearly everyone. We fervently desired an alliance with the Jangl, but they had a different agenda in mind.

We were to be punished.

I truly believed they would not die. More, I feared internment.

Nobody ever does, except in hindsight. I remember reading something about why none of the passengers of the three planes that hit their targets on September 11, 2001, fought back, and the answer is that simple. It's one thing to face imminent death, and it's another to face uncertain death some time in the unclear future.

We never do learn from history. Generation after generation, nation after nation falls for the 'Saviour'. I wish people realise there are no saviours. There's just us, and the choices we make to make the world a better place.

Loved your story!

I wholeheartedly agree. The choices we make are very important, and I try to remind myself that daily.

Thank you for reading.

Is it bad to say that this makes my little environmentalist heart a little joyful? Not that I'm wishing for the extinction of mankind.

Lots of interesting food for thought here - well done!

You're not alone. There's a tiny bit in the back of my head that thinks that large-scale extermination by an alien race (or a virus) is probably what the earth needs, and I suspect most people have that little bit. I think that's why stories of zombie plagues and global-scale natural disasters are so popular, especially recently.

I agree.

I think we have the virus already. Have you been following the news on the ebola outbreak? I first read about this one yesterday.

Bad? No. I think plenty of people are looking for any way sort of global wake up call.

Thank you for reading and commenting.

I actually found plenty of true stories of similar scenarios (not with aliens, of course!) that have happened over the centuries.
