New York : Del Rey, c2005.
ISBN: 0345463048 (pbk.)
Series: Star wars, The dark nest
Description: xi, 526 p. ; 18 cm.
This is the first book in the Dark Nest Trilogy, which is comprised of:
The Joiner King
The Unseen Queen
The Swarm War
The page count above is misleading, as the volume also contains a short story, which I did not read, so I'm not going to count it. I read it years ago, and maybe I'll go back to it if I finish everything I brought before my vacation ends. The novel itself was 434 pages.
This trilogy is set 35 years after A New Hope, the original Star Wars film. Han and Leia are in their 60s and are still going strong.
A big war has just ended in which they lost one son, Anakin. In the years since, Jacen has gone on a search for Force knowledge, and Jaina has continued to grow as a Jedi Knight as the galaxy rebuilds from the Yuuzhan Vong. The books starts when Jaina and a group of younger Jedi Knights disappears. What ties them all together is that they were all on the mission where Anakin was killed.
I really liked this story, it had some great twists. In a universe that has been frequently written in, and frequently messed up by its creator, there aren't that many good twists, so I get excited when I come across a few. Great new species were introduced, and we got a lot about the personal lives of some key characters. I can't wait to see what happens in the the rest of the trilogy.
If you were not a great fan of the New Jedi Order series, I think you will like this. It show the Jedi Order post-Vong and how they are rebuilding and also using what they learned while fighting the Vong.
