Major Catch-Up

Oct 23, 2021 22:11

I have been out and about quite a lot over the past couple of weeks. Here is an attempt at catching up. There’s some storytelling stuff, too, which I will write about separately.

Baseball: I am sleep deprived due to Red Sox Stress Syndrome. The playoff against the Source of All Evil in the Universe went well and, after the first game, the BoSox ( Read more... )

I am envious of your access to art museums and theater. There is some theater here, but it's not been anything I've wanted to see in quite a while. Repeats of Shakespearean plays I've seen multiple times or things that aren't really plays, but sort of gimmicks don't do it for me.

The last really good play I saw was The Royale. That play rocked my boat, and the production was really good.

As for baseball, your Red Sox beating my Rays pissed me off, but I rooted for them against the "Trashtos" (as my friend Loretta calls them). I'm very sorry they lost.

It's a tough season to love a good team.

The cultural life of the DC area is phenomenal and definitely one of the major reasons to live here. But there are lots of people here who don't take advantage of it.

I wonder if my Smartrip card will still work if I ever travel by Metro again? I'll have to remember to check online as I've had it for about 7 years.

Like you I was also hoping that your Red Sox would send the Cheaters packing. Hopefully Atlanta can do it.

I'm so jealous of your having gone on the Gettysburg tour. I immediately went on Goodle Maps to check out how far it is from our place in Missouri. I want to see it someday in the not too distant future!

You would want to take at least a couple of days each way if you drove from Missouri. I have a friend here who visits his mother in Springfield, MO and he usually stops a night in Dayton (where his brother lives). Or you could fly to/from Philadelphia or Washington. There are several other Civil War battlefields near Washington, e.g. Sharpsburg and Antietam, as well as sites like Harper's Ferry and Frederick.

Thanks for the tip. I plan to visit Vicksburg in the next few months. I had forgotten about Antietam, but it would definitely be on that list.

Interesting about creating structure in retirement! My mom could use some more structure, she admits that she mostly just sits on the chair and watches her ipad (and scares herself because she watches ridiculous stuff).

Ha, I feel the same way every time I go to a RennFest. Yeah, it was fun, but I don't feel a need to go back for several years.

What a pain on the Metro! Ugh.

Funny about Zits/Baby Boom. Wonder if the mom is based on his own mom (or wife?)

I have a good friend who retired about 10 years ago and who told me he started studying Spanish to get some structure to his time. I am fairly committed to my crafting group and book club and various storytelling groups. But I still waste a lot of time.
