Top Ten Episodes of Doctor Who (According to Me) #6-10

Dec 06, 2011 11:40

My top five episodes were really easy to choose, but numbers 6-10 were a LOT harder, so here's a list of some episodes that almost made the final cut.

Honorable mentions: School Reunion. I REALLY enjoy this episode and I cannot understand people who use this episode to hate on Rose. She was not the only one acting petty and immature in this ( Read more... )

I loved Partners in Crime, probably one of the funnest episodes of Doctor Who ever. And the fat babies are so freaking cute lol.

I totally forgot about Fathers Day, but that was a great episode for the reasons you said.

There are so many funny moment in Partners in Crime, like the Doctor popping his head over the cubicle partition.

Father's Day is probably easy to forget because it's not a bombastic finale and it's not an especially memorable plot. But Billie just knocks it out of the park and it punches me in the grief bone.

Nice list!

but really the plot is just there to serve the character points that RTD wanted to hit.

And voila the difference between Moffat and RTD. For Moffat, invert this sentence. =\

Precisely. I mean, I don't begrudge people who prefer plot driven shows over character driven shows which is why even if I don't agree, I could understand why people preferred series 5 to RTD's era. But when Moffat loses the thread with the plot everything goes to crap because he doesn't have the characters to hold the show up.

I think AoG/Doomsday would place similarly for me. The character stuff is heartbreaking, but I can't take Daleks seriously for the life of me, so basically it's just me experiencing secondhand embarrassment for two episodes until the meaty stuff starts going down.

I want to see the adventures of Old!Amy so badly.

An irl friend of my watched Doomsday last week and she was so upset over it that she still hasn't moved on to watch "The Runaway Bride" yet. Doomsday just will break you but it's SO good that I'll overlook that standard plot.

Hah, I did that with Journey's End, then again with the End of Time. This show, man.

Guh. The last 15 minutes of Doomsday is perfection. Billie and David sell it so well and s;dlkfjdsl;k ALL OF THE EMOTIONS!

I liked The Doctor's Wife a lot, but TGWW was just so satisfying to me because Amy and Rory FINALLY chewed the Doctor out.

CAN I JUST SAY, DONNA NOBLE IN PARTNERS IN CRIME IS PERFECT/STUNNING/FLAWLESS. Like okay, she had the shove that is TRB, but after one adventure she's figured out how to do this stuff exactly the same as the Doctor -- flashing the health & safety card, inspecting on her own, sensing when something is dodgy, etc. UGH DONNA LET ME LOVE YOU.

Girl Who Waited is so fucking good, love it love it. OLD AMY. AMELIA JESSICA POND I HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE ATTACHED TO YOU. Karen Gillan kills it in that episode, too. Moffat/Matt/everyone promised us seh would and I was a bit wary because while I like Karen a lot she'd never wowed me before, but she really delivered in this episode. Arthur Darvill too -- the TARDIS door scene is heartbreaking.

YEESSS. DONNA IS SO AMAZING IN PARTNERS IN CRIME. I love how proactive she's being about finding the Doctor, investigating places she thinks he might be.

And ITA about Karen Gillan. She hadn't really impressed me much with her acting before TGWW, but she really pulled it out in TGWW. And yeah, Arthur Darvill is great too. It's amazing what these actors can do when they're given good scripts!
