Yes, I've heard about it. The way I figure, some parent will keep an eye on what goes into their kid's bag, tell the world where "Cheryl" lives, and the neighborhood will run her out of town.

yep- and given that the person in question is in North Dakota, I'm not all that surprised (in North Dakota you can be fired/terminated/passed over for a position if you identify as homosexual- this also applies to housing). I live about 3.5 hours north of Fargo in Manitoba and it hit our newspapers/stations as well.

It's so sad. Can't the kids enjoy anything with a little junk food anymore without having to drag politics and fat-shaming into it? Halloween was always the one day out of the year when mass amounts of sugar/yummy stuff was still acceptable, no matter your age/size/etc....I hope the neighborhood eggs/TPs the living hell out of this hateful woman's house.

The radio show that broke the "story" is known for doing fake stories to generate interest. I think it was a couple years ago they did a "story" about a lady who wanted the city to move deer crossing signs so the deer wouldn't cross the roads and be hit by cars.

That said I can imagine a lot of people doing this or something like it, our local new station covered the story (I'm in ND) and more than a few comments on their facebook page were people agreeing with the letter and saying it was a good idea.

I attended a weight loss retreat for the obese and most of the people there were put on diets as children and deprived of treats like Halloween candy growing up. Fat shaming and deprivation doesn't create healthy people. Encouraging exercise, and discouraging binging really helps. My son knows he can have treats, and if he's had sweets already he'll even turn them down, something I never would have done at his age when I was already getting the strange messages about food.
